Rust prevention

I continue to restore my coronet. I have had to do some welding on the cowl and underhood frame work. What product is out there to "coat" inside the cowl and hood frame because it's no accessable. I know they have the internal frame coatings but haven't used them so don't know if they will work?

I'm using regular Rustoleum oil based paint. It's tough as hell. It's the DTM (direct to metal) paint. I got it at Lowes for 27 bucks a gallon. There are other more expensive products, but properly applied, Rustoleum works great.

Use bridge paint from Sherwin Williams or Rustoleum. save your money on por 15 too expensive, personally i think it is not good from my experience.

Why not? My cowl was rusted just in front of the cowl vents, so I cut that portion out. I have a patch panel made for it, but like you I need to treat the inside. I can get to it GOOD since I cut the old out. You could very simply do the same.

You can pick up fairly cheap a under coat spray gun with a wand and use that to get into to hard to reach places. Like RustRatRod said you can use rustoleum and if need be you can thin the rustoleum with mineral spirits.

If you're not looking to actually paint anything but just apply a rust preventative measure, I would recommend 3M's Rust Fighter. You can buy in in a quart, spray with a schutz gun and plastic wand or you can buy it in a can...Stuff sprays in like a petroleum jelly, sinks into all the seams and hardens up a bit, but never completely. It can be wiped off after spraying for a bit. Use it on all my cars in the nooks and crannies, especially areas prone for rust. Good luck.
