Sail Panel Schooling Please.

Hi fellas, I purchased a pair of panels from Classic Ind. and see several holes. The irregular center hole would be for the courtesy lamps but, is there a reason for the others? How do these panels fasten to the roof pillar? Does the courtesy lamp hold the panel in place? My head liner was trashed when I got the car 12 years ago. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Not the wagon (66), it's the 65 Belvedere 2 DrHt.

I have never understood which cars used hard sail panels and which just had headliner material. I see sail panels for sale for 66 - 67 cars and I don’t remember ever seeing them in those years. Same for some 68 - 70 cars - some have them and some don’t. My original 64 Sport Fury back in the 60s didn’t have sail panels and it’s essentially the same as a 65 Belvedere. Was it a factory specific thing? Inquiring minds want to know.

Both my 1965 Coronet sedan and hardtop both have these black cardboard sail panels. They are attached with the same adhesive that is used on the headliner. One hole is for the light, some of the others just line up with holes in the sheetmetal. Study these photos and you will figure it out. These photos are from the right side.

Ahh - I misunderstood - you were asking about the underpayment panels underneath. Duhh
