Scary Engine!

Its a non-MOPAR, but, still interesting! Here's the 289 from one of the Mustangs I bought. This motor is pretty bad, got lots of water in it, going to be fun trying to free these pistons!

Donny throw it in a tub with molasses and water 1:6 for 2-3 weeks.Should fix all that rust and it will disassemble easy.

Does look like its going to be a tuff one, better stock up on a few cans of blaster penetrating spray.. Good luck, i had one of those HP 289 engines in a 66 fastback Mustang that surprised the heck out of me..

Good luck getting it to free up.Looks like a lot of work.Hope you can get it apart and still make it usable.

Coke should do the trick. Of just melt the pistons and dissolve the rust with hydrochloric/muratic acid... the fumes are nasty though.

I hope the cylinder walls are ok, and will clean up with a light re-bore. First off I gotta hose the nasty brown **** outta it along with the loose crud. I sort of think the molasses and water idea might be doable! Might have to make a vessel to hold the engine though, along with the heads. And, the strangest thing is when we took the pan off, there was a push rod inside it, like its been sitting in there for years...and none were missing from up top!

Nothing special about this motor at all! We're just going fwd, if it's not able to be saved, its going in the scrap heap.

50% acetone and 50% ATF. Works like a charm.

Or, I can wheel the motor, heads, intake, oil pan and media blast the crap out of it! It's all coming apart anyways, so, why not?

I fail to see how that will unstick rings from the cylinders, but it'll at least be a clean locked up engine.

Anyone ever melt the aluminum pistons?

Aluminum takes a bunch of heat to turn them liquid and you will probably distort the cylinders before the aluminum melts.....hell, blast it then soak it and let us know how it goes.

Hole saw the the rod area remove the rods,crank and the have at it with a BFH
