Hey guys, I’m looking for opinions and/or reviews on restored seatbelts vs reproduction seatbelts.

I’m just about finishing up a car with new black interior and the faded black seats belts aren’t close to matching and some of the chrome is pitted and seen better days.

I have contacted Sharon’s Web and got a quote for $850 for new webbing and re-chromed pieces. I have also seen new reproduction sets online for $575. Ill attach a link to Roseville Mopars seat belts.

My main question is do the reproduction belts look factory? The pattern of the webbing looks similar to my stock belts but they have 1 stock photo zoomed out pretty far. I’m not picky about belts for my drivers but this car is pretty nice and I like the idea of original parts as well.

I bought new for the Bee,I have heard horror stories about people not getting theirs back. Hopefully someone can help you out on a good place.

Whatever you do, save yourself from the agony and don't go with all mopar seat belts in Spanaway Washington

How bad are your existing belts? I just did some cleanup on mine and they turned out much better than I expected. I had some surface rust too, but sanded some of it off then soaked it in EvapoRust overnight.

What I thought was faded was mostly just very dirty. If my belts were actually faded, I would've boiled them (the non-plastic parts) for a bit in a pot of water with RIT dye, but mine weren't that bad, fortunately.

Found this thread before posting a similar question.

I was trying to clean mine up, but there's a bunch of rust, etc. I may still try as it sounds like a restore will be ~$800-$900. My biggest concern is the buckle where the plastic/textured coating is peeling off. Does anyone know if the buckles are reproduced? It seems like I could remove/replace those by myself if they are. I was looking at rear lap belts on Seatbelt Panet - thinking I could buy those and steal the buckles (1968-1970 Dodge Charger Rear Lap Seat Belt | SeatbeltPlanet). If i bought 6 of those (have to try 1 first), I'd be in for ~ $200 vs $900.

If anyone has thoughts on the quality of new ones or where I can get NOS buckles, shout.

Thanks
Ross

Your rust on the chrome belt tabs is pretty bad, but why not just scuff up and degrease those black areas and spray them with SEM Trim Black?
It's a plastic or similar coating that is peeling off - even if I paint it won't be right.

However, Sharon's Web got back to me and estimated $1350 to restore them - ouch!! I guess I'll clean them up and see what I'm really dealing with first.

PG Classic’s has nice new ones, i’d wait until the prices go down.

PG is in Canada right? Think prices will go down from $520 for new ones?

Yes, Canada. The shipping is outrageous right now. Additional fees will be shown at checkout. I can’t say too much without it turning political. I got mine on a 25% off sale but shipping wasn’t high a couple years ago. How soon are you looking to purchase them?

The car comes back from metal, body, & paint late Dec - Jan, then reassembly will take 3-6 months Seat belts can be easily replaced later, so I'll try to clean up mine and wait.
