Sending unit pick-up position

1966 Satellite, new aftermarket spectra tank and sending unit. How far should the pick up be from the bottom of the tank? It seems a bit high off of the floor of the tank, maybe 3/4 inch or so at the closest. Also should the float contact the floor when totally empty, because this one sits about a 1/4 inch off of the floor of the tank?
Should I pull the sending unit out and bend the pick up tube closer to the floor? Seems like a fair amount of gas wouldn't be reachable with it how it is now.

I bent my pickup so the end just touches the bottom of the tank. It is on a bit of an angle anyway. I think the float is fine.

I always bend mine so they touch the bottom as well.
