shifter cable position

just a quick question i had to replace my B&M shifter cable because it got to close to the header pipe is or has anyone ran the cble from the back of the tranny to the front re3verse style and is there a kit for that thanks

Yes I had that issue once. My car has a reverse manual valve body and it melted in high gear. Drove it home that way and I then put a Quarter stick in my '64 with rear cable entry. Never an issue again...

You can do it 2 ways. If the shifter has a rear exit cable option you can run it that way into the trans from the rear. Or have a bell crank mounted on the rear tab of the case to change the cable direction. Years ago burned up a few on my street car. It was a factory floor shift car. Put all the linkage back thru the floor. Then used a small length of a burned cable to connect the shifter to the factory bell crank mounted on the tunnel. Been that way over 35 years. A longer 5 foot cable routed over the top of the bell housing works better than the standard 4 foot cable if you don't want to fabricate anything.
