Shifter location in 4 speed hump

For all of you 4 speed guys .. does your shifter set more towards the front edge of the hole in the hump? I always thought it should be in the center but it appears mine sets more forward. When i put it in first gear, the shifter handle almost touches the front edge of the hole. Is this just the way they are? Just want to make sure its right before i go welding it in.

Is the boot shown in the pic for a console car?

That boot is probably the same for a console / non-console car. the 62-65s use one accordion-style boot that you can see on the interior side, then another one that seals to the floor- shown in the pic above.

From what I recall my 4spd 64 Dodge does have the shifter stick more toward the the 10 o'clock position.

Yep my car has both. You could get by without the one pictured if you needed to. I think its there to seal out oil and weather from flying up and possibly seeping into the carpet. They are reproduced if you are interested in finding one.

The Picture was taken after a little Floor Restoration, before the new carpet was in.
The Shifter is in second gear in that Picture and in the one above.
