shortening shift throw

my 69 Roadrunner has the original looong hurst shifter, and looking to shorten shift throw. what is an easy way to do this? can i just adjust the shift rods, or is there other alternatives to achieving this. would like to row through the gears a little faster.

Shorter shift rods will do it. Never redrilled any but that might be an option.....

Shift rods On the shifter mechanism would need to be lengthened, never seen it done but I'm sure it's possible.

Drill holes on the trans shifter plates closer to the pivot.

See if you can find the shifter levers for a 70 pistol grip shifter. They are longer and should fit in your shifter mechanism. I would look at Brewers for the levers.

so, would i need longer shift rods or shorter? longer seems opposite of what i'm trying to achieve. i think i'll try adjusting the "play" out of it for now and see what that does

You need either longer on the shifter mechanism or shorter on the trans shift levers.

Remember years ago reading that Tony Defoe or Richard Eherenberg recommended
subbing Corvette triangular shift levers on the transmission side of the linkage to shorten throw.

Hurst use to sell trans shift arms for just this purpose with 2 holes one for factory setting and other for the shorter throw.
