Six Pak Hood Paint Code

The problem is they tell me it doesn't exist any longer. Everyone gave me a correct code but organisol paint is not longer mixed. They don't have the texture any longer. I'm going to go with the SEM Satin Black paint. I hope it's close enough and as stated by a few it's easy to keep clean. I wasn't going to pay $200 a quart to get closer - that's taking advantage of a mopar guy. If it's not the way I like it - guess it'll have to be redone at some point.

everyone has been extremely helpful and for that I'm appreciative!!! Always open to more tips...... Got a couple weeks!!

Hello I wanted to share my Organisol ordeal with you. After reading the old application guide for spraying Organisol, I tried the Roger Gibson stuff on a test panel with slow reducer and it didn't look right. (too glossy) The original stuff plus Gibson's is lacquer which really is not very durable. I decided to use acrylic urethane with hardener and texture added. Here is the formula I came up with. Also I have a step by step of the work on photobucket. Each pic has a description if you click on it. http://s657.photobucket.com/user/Jim-2/library/?sort=9&page=1
Good luck......

Thx for the input and pics Jim! I wonder if it makes any difference that I'm painting a fiber glass six pack hood vs. metal. My guy that's doing the work said the paint place says they no longer carry the DCC9355. They recommended this satin finish. Said most of the guys were going to that now that the organisol is no longer being mixed. I'm going to go with his recs and hope it turns out clean and not too shiney.

Where in MN are you located? That's where my car is being restored since I'm from the Twin Cities. You have a nice looking X there. Love that color blue. Thx again. I'll post some pics when the car is done - about 30 days away from finished.

Hello, I'm in White Bear lake. I'm sure Welle Auto in Columbia Heights on 44th and Central still has DCC9355 or could mix it up. I don't see why fiberglass would make any difference. Mine's a 69 Plymouth Roadrunner B5 blue.

Funny you would mention that location of Welle. I'm a Nordeaster and grew up in N.E. Mpls just a short distance from 44/Central. My guy has been using Welle - only further up on Central. They're the ones that have been directing traffic on the paint mixes. They say they don't have the mix any longer and recommended the satin paint - I believe it's SEM. I have to check with him as I hopes its the Hot Rod Black that I've seen posted by some others on different threads. What ever the case I'll check with my guy tomorrow on both your posting and the other over referred to.

Glad to have you on the site. This place is a gold mine of information - such as yours - and others. I'll repost what I learn. Better yet maybe I'll meet you at a stop light soon. Mines a black pearl Garnett six pack. Let's keep in touch. I'll be up there the whole month of June. Jonesing to pick up the X.

Wow hard to believe Welle can't mix it. (the 44 & central place) Those guys have mixed everything in the world for me. Old DTL stuff and even some samples I have brought in. They have the formulas for everything. I have even driven my RR there a couple of times. Once for the B5 blue and the other time we took of the glove box to match the vinyl dye. I painted a rear 1/4, granted you still have to blend but, it came out great because it was so close to start. They have a scanner tool from PPG called "prophet" which works really well. They even mixed up the dark argent for my headlight bezels which turned out great.
Wow black 440-6pack GTX. Sounds really, really nice.
When I bought this car 13 years ago, my intention was to paint it black and put a 4 speed in it. I then found out I was the 3rd owner, and I didn't have the heart to cut it up. So it stays original. Slushbox and all.
I'll call Welle tomorrow just to see about the DCC9355. I would like to know myself. That really is the route to go because it is so tough. Just a little white vinegar and distilled water mixed 50/50 to clean off water spots and bird crap, then a wipe with microfiber and it is back to new. No shiney spots like the old days.
I'll be talking to you.............Jim

You're right, no DCC9355 anymore but DCC9300 is the same stuff less the added flattening agent. So you would have to add some more of that.

Thx for double checking for me! I'm going to go with the stuff they recommended to my painter - might be what you state above. I'm no expert on paint. I just know what I like when it's done. The cars not actually black - that's just the name of the paint. Black Garnett pearl is a very dark pearl burgundy. Looks black in the garage. Any light on it tho and you see that it's really a deep burgundy. I'll post some pics when I get back from MN. Thx again!
