Hey guys,

The Slap Stik chrome plate on my center console is in need of re-plating, and I've noticed that the fastenings are pins that have been peined over. The pins are part of the casting. The only way to get the sandwich apart is to file the pins flat. If I do this, can I drill some new holes and pop rivet the assembly back together? Hope that makes sense, and pictures should help.

Has anybody been through this process before?

Thanks

it will work but it wont be factory anymore , if that matters

Yep, I purchased a new one and it came with screws. Just grind them off with a dremel and the new one is pictured. See:

That's great thanks Bob. I might have known you had already been down this track. I have drilled out my rivets carefully and have got it apart. I was going to get my original one re-chromed. With the price of re-chroming now days, it might be cheaper to buy new. Whats the quality like, where did you get it and how much?
Cheers
Jason

Sorry about jumping in on the thread but I got mine off eBay after extensive searching for 50 bucks! I couldn't see spending 100 bucks for the same thing from the resto sites. The quality is top notch and it looks great. Hope this helps.

Chrome piece is the same 70-74. It's what is under that is different. So you can use your old stuff if its good.

Thanks Bob I will check out this auction. Hardware underneath is in good order. I've just been cleaning it up. The green panel is broken though. It's such thin plastic it's no wonder. I should be able to find something to replace that with. Also I'm going to use an LED lamp in there too. I know it's not strictly OEM but I think this will be a much better solution.

Are you referring to the PRND12? That is broken. You should be able to get one of those as well. When you search just put Mopar not Charger or RR.
Here is one http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-74-E-Bod...Parts_Accessories&hash=item27dde91034&vxp=mtr
Has the round hole which is 74 but the other piece looks to be OK.
Keep an eye out. Thig is I see these all the time at flea mkts and especially Carlisle.

Thanks for that Bob. In actual fact everything works fine its just the plastic green window that's broken. I'm sure I will be able to find something but thanks for the offer.

I see what you mean. Well, the assembly piece are out there if you need one.
May be the way you have to go.

I will find something. I have been around a few plastic places but nothing yet. Its only a few thou thick. Maybe an off cut of Lexon will do it so long as its not too thick.
