1964 Dodge speedometer needle bounces. What is the fix in the car.
Lubrication trans. fluid or grease after removing cable from speedometer head.

Thanks,

I would recommend a grease with about the consistency of Vaseline. Chrysler speedometer cable lube was quite stiff. Pull the top end down where you can see it then pull the cable out, clean it, and reinstall it. Fill the "funnel" on the cable housing with lube and as you reinsert the cable "twirl" the cable in, capturing as much lube as possible. When about 8-12" remains, stop refilling the funnel so as to not over lube the top end and promote leakage at the instrument.

all good advice above but in the end may need a new cable assembly sometimes
the outer housing is just worn out.

Always had good results using Lubriplate, white assembly grease.

Are the cable assemblies still available and if so where would they be found.

Thanks

Usually larger metropolitan areas have businesses that specialize in speedometers and calibration issues, although with all the electronics today, I don't know how many are still in business.
