Currently having my 72 Satellite repainted plus I'm having a number of small custom touches done like a 73 GTX hood, shaving running lights, turn indicators, antenna etc. and my body man was asking if I had considered a rear spoiler. Seen a number of 71-72 with wings and one with what I call a ducktail spoiler. Anyone know where to find spoilers (NOT WINGS) that would compliment a 72?

I think I know the duck tail spoiler you're talking about and that was hand crafted. I had thought about mounting a spoiler off a 76-80 Volare Road Runner on my car, but first they are as expensive as all get up (if you can find one for sale), and two it just didn't look right. I ended up going Mythbusters and trying things out using model cars and parts, and the duck tail spoiler made the car look way too much like a modern coupe that some automaker tried to make look sporty by slapping on a spoiler. :) 70's cars were all about wings, so I ended up going with a go wing. Another thing I found was it's tough to add anything to the rear of the car if you don't also add a spoiler to the front. The car just doesn't look balanced.

By the way, be careful with shaving those marker lights, especially if by shaving you mean deleting them. That can get you cited pretty quick as they are required equipment on cars 1968 and older. I know guys who've done it and said "nobody has ever bothered me about it", but eventually someone will, and they're going to end up at a police barrack or courthouse with a repair order and their car proving all that time and money they spent getting those lights to go away was wasted and more money to get the car back in spec was spent. :(

By shaving I met deleting. fortunately I live in an uncivilized part of the country and nobody gives a flip about running lights, bumpers, seat belts, catalytic converters or green anything. The reason I want to use a spoiler is that nearly everybody installs wings (no disrespect). Just my way of making the car different. Got a line on the front spoiler so I'm good there. Couldn't think of a good name for the rear spoiler I saw but it looked like the old ducktail spoiler AMC had on there Javelins and AMXs.

Those duck tails, look ok on the smaller cars, but think they would look out of place on a b-body, maybe mock one up out of cardboard, paint it black, sit it on there, maybe take a few pics, you'll probably change your mind, at least it will give you a rough idea of how it's going to look before spending money on it.

LOL, you have no idea how many times I've heard someone say something like that over the past 30 or so years and then regretted it. It just takes one cop who knows what the rules are and pow! Not a big deal with things like shoulder belts, amber highbeams, etc., but major $$$$ if you have to put the lights back. You may be one of the guys who beats the odds, but that's not something I would bank on. :)

I think you'll like the front spoiler. I always thought they were for looks only until I put one on my car and noticed I had to keep adjusting my rear view mirror during the day. Took me a couple of weeks before I figured out I would adjust it when the car was stopped, then when I was at highway speeds I would have to adjust it again because the angle of the car was being altered by the spoiler.

As for wings vs spoilers, I guess you and I are polar opposites. You don't like wings because everybody has wings on their old cars, and I don't like spoilers because modern car makers have used them to death to imply performance on non-performance cars. I guess we do have one thing in common... we think the rear profiles need something back there. :)

Never noticed that the spoiler revealed or exposed the mounting pedestals! I may have a closer look.
I had one for my 70 Cuda back in the day.(77-80) There was a guy around KC, Mo that was repopping them for $50. That was almost a days wages then.
Anyway, the thing had a wood base you shot a screw into from the bottom of the deck lid.

I think that sums it up pretty well "something is lacking". Hey, it is all personal taste. The spoiler I saw looked very good and much preferred that to a wing. Will try to find a pix and post it. Maybe that might help.

Here's the one I saw, and I think old_skool hit it on the head. Great on small cars, not so much on B bodies, but it is all about personal likes and dislikes. :)

the spoilers I used on my car was

69 camaro rear spoiler (this is 2" longer than the 67-68 model but a 1/4" smaller in width)
67-68 front spoiler (this about 1" in width bigger if I remember than the 69)
The spoilers by randy for our cars didn't fit right, he sent me 2 of them, still never got it, I gave up and went for the camaro instead
I also tried a cuda trans am front spoiler but it didn't fit our cars
A cuda rear spoiler I looked at might work but remember they have a flat deck lid as ours has a natural curve to it, and also the cuda/challenger spoiler starts at around $400, whereas you you could get a carbon fiber camaro rear one for the same price
I would love to get my hands on a 70 javalin Mark donohue rear spoiler, I think it would work if you glassed over the rear keyhole, I don't know what the length is for these spoilers

Also to add to this I thought about trying a 69-70 mustang trans am front spoiler someday as they seem to be more flat and looks like they would fit as well...something to think about :)

I missed out buying another Javelin(had a 69) by about 2 days, If I had bought it, I'd probably still have it. Has to be my favorite next to mopars. Altough I did ownn a bugly 73 matador.

it was triple black with Ole' casino interior, probably spelling it wrong

That's what I want! Shoot I must have seen the car in my MM and totally spaced it out. Been looking all over the web.

I was going to buy one of Randy's spoilers for my 74, but when I posted a pic of it some folks said "hey, that looks exactly like a 69 Camaro spoiler!" and they were right. I bought a 69 Camaro spoiler and it was a spot-on match for the 74 Roadrunner spoiler Randy sells, and only cost about $40.

Big wheels, little rubber, no RWL, marker lights gone, and a spoiler... lord help America's youth. :)

A blend of new and old, I like it and I'm not young!
