I'm putting a 727 in my 72 charger. The mechanic helping me and my dad said to put a 2500 stall converter in it. after reading more i saw you should go about 500 over the cam's starting rpm(which is 1500.) Is it worth it? And should you only go 500 over?

Give us some specs on the engine and we can give some advice. It may not be good advice though! I have made some cam / converter mistakes in my day! LOL

What is the main use for the car? That's the first question that needs to be asked but factory stock high performance converters were in the rpm range you're talking about. A stock type converter will limit your low rpm performance some but with a cam that starts at 1500, it won't limit it much and you may not like a 2500 converter in a street car with highway gears....

Its a street car. Engines a 340, bored .030 over, 0 deck, X heads, cast crank out of a 318.

If the cam really starts at 1500 I would run a factory hi perf. converter. I think those are about 2000-2300.

Yeah, plus with a small block in a heavy car. I'll second the stock hi-po converter.

Are SB and BB converters different, because I have the stock one out of my RR I would sell. It worked perfect but I went with a 3500.

The more you know about the car the better you will be able to match the right converter to it. Turbo Action can build one to your spec. Helpful info to have, gear ratio, HP, torque, tire size, can spec, cars weight etc...

Some of those details I won't have for awhile. I'm rebuilding the 340 now and I have no idea what tires I'm putting on it yet.
