Hey everybody, I'm looking for more ideas and second opinions on what I can do to improve my chargers starting consistency to make it reliable. It's a 73, with a 318/904. Edelbrock carb and intake. New ECM, plug wires, cleaned plugs, cleaned carb, WD40 in cap to dry it out, new ballast resistor. It used to fire up after a couple seconds of cranking, but not anymore. It seems like I need to pump the gas pedal 4-5 times and turn the key. After it's been cranking for a good 15 seconds, Sometimes when I release the key, when the starter starts to wind down, the engine will pop and fire up. If I shut the car down and come back to it 15-20 minutes later it won't start, and will just crank and crank and crank.. One thing I have noticed is that if I take the air cleaner lid off and jump the starter relay, it fires up pretty quickly.
Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem or has anyone run into this problem before? And how did you handle it? Thank you
