Steering box leak

Mine must be leaking there too, it’s soaked. I know the power steering pump is leaking.

If I was you I’d be calling Firm Feel if you can get a hold of them. How long ago did they rebuild it?
I didn't use firm feel.I had it rebuilt locally in MI.It was years ago.It sat dry for a long time during the resto. before it was installed.Im going to reach out to them and see what they say.

That was for Powertrip, he had his rebuilt by Firm Feel.

Yeah thx good advice but if you install it over a year after ordering this gets difficult. And it doesn't help to be on another continent. So, my loss.

Any updates on the fix here beside a rebuild. Mine is starting to seep at that large spanner nut. Disappointed in my Steer N Gear rebuild as that was less than two years ago and maybe 4,000 miles of use.

Unable to get that spanner nut off. They must have torqued it hard. Almost a bit embarrassed to say I added some JB Weld around the leaking area and now I lose a couple drops and just live with it for now.

The spanner nut is torqued well over a hundred ft pounds. I'd have to look it up again. I actually used a rounded edge chisel to break it loose.

This is what you're dealing with. There is an O ring under the castle nut. There also a seal under the adjuster locking nut.

Turning the adjustment screw will change the gears endplay/backlash.

There's needle bearings inside the cover.

The adjuster is threaded inside of the cover.

The adjuster is inserted in the slot of the pinion shaft.

You have to screw the adjuster into the cover to install the cover and leave some play.

Then the castle nut can be installed.

Then the seal under the locking nut is installed.

After all of this is done you'll have to set the correct endplay. Just replacing the seal under the nut won't require any adjustment as long as you don't move the adjuster when loosening the lock nut.

Thank you. Looks like it can't be done while mounted in the vehicle. So it's another rebuild or upgrade to Borgenson. Decisions decisions.

If it's the cover leaking you could try tightening it. Big hammer and a very dull or rounded off chisel. Mark it to see if it moves.
