Steering column

[Car #4]

In 1968 did Dodge and Plymouth use the same steering column? I have a 68 Charger and it’s at a shop right now. Right signal would go solid when the brakes are applied. The shop says there’s no way of attaching the switch plate and are wondering if it could be a Plymouth column. This is a floor shift automatic.

@gkent Thank you. It does look the same except mine is missing the metal plate that’s held down with the three screws. So nothing is anchoring the switch and it doesn’t always cancel. The shop told me that stuff is just being held by the nut that holds the wheel. At first I thought he was referring to me.
Is there just one plate in there that’s missing? Does anyone have an extra one?

The plate is just a bearing retainer - somewhat keeps the steering shaft from being pulled out in a time of panic. the plastic turn switch is only retained by one screw - which I think screws into the turn lever.

Looks like you are missing bolts that hold what would be the shift bowl on.

I was wrong about the plate. It was there, just removed when they took the picture. @LowBikeMike You are correct, it is the bolts that are missing. Two of them. They think this column is out of a 66 or 67 Plymouth, maybe a Satellite or Fury. Is there some way to verify that? Would the bolts be the same on other columns or are column specific?

It was at Pentastar Motors in Gorrie. Great bunch of guys. Very friendly and certainly treated me right. The owner is a Mopar guy and has some beautiful cars.

I know that guy. I'm surprised he wouldn't have the parts.

I think the bolts are special - square head or something. But they should be in any early Mopar column. Sent you a PM
