Anyone used a modern steering column in an old school car looking for something with a clockspring without being too bulky in the top .
Need to add paddle shifters without expensive wireless type or coiled wires dangling below the column

If you're not already aware, there's a company called Powertrain Control Solutions that has paddle shifter kits. They don't seem too cost-prohibitive to me. Are you absolutely married to paddle shifters? Presumably you have an electronically controlled transmission and some sort of ECU? Not sure why you are concerned about a solution leaving coiled wires - cut the excess off and re-terminate them to the proper length.

That said, it would be really difficult and probably equally or more expensive than those kits to take a steering column out of a late model vehicle and make it work in an older car. it wouldn't look remotely right nor would I want to voluntarily deal with a clockspring. Air bags are integrated into too many other systems and is all CAN or LIN bus modulated - have fun with that. I can say with almost 100% confidence that no modern airbag-equipped column would fit an older car anyway, there are too many physical differences.

Why? Just curious. My Dakota had a recall for defective clock spring. Never heard of that part before the recall notice.

The Powertrain (PCS) wireless paddle kit is mainly for GM & Ford they dont work well with the 8hp70 on CAN i have the wireless paddle kit
Already have the Sound German 2600 controller that works well in cruise, sport, track mode , may go with column mounted paddles rather steering wheel paddles so i can hard wire
I dont normally use the paddles when turning so they will be in the right position when driving straight

Maybe hit up Flaming River or Ididit and see if they have a universal street rod type unit that you could adapt.

The guy in this video seems to have done what you're trying to do?

Just been informed the PCS 2001 wireless paddle shifter has been upgraded to work with the 8HP70 ,back on track just have to get it ordered.
