So I went outside to start my 1973 Charger, and drive or park or reverse didn't work. I looked underneath, and found that the driveshaft had been stolen!:angryfire: How in the $#^*% does somebody do this? Well anyways, I'll post pics soon. 2-3 days. Can yall give me the specs and where to buy a reproduction? thanks.

Who in the hell would do that? That sucks. I have a selection, so let me know what your engine/ trans is, and maybe we all can help!

Maybe a little different but went out to take the CRV for a spin and sounded like the muffler fell off. Someone stole the catalytic converter. I guess those things are worth a few bucks on the street. They have chips or something in them - besides the palladium. Blew me away.....

sorry to to hear about your drive shaft. That one eludes me completely.

Just wait till you see another small block b body thatinherent started to come out and ? The owner like did you do a motor swap dont say you have one and see if his story doesn't fit.

Then kick his ***

8 1/4, or 8 3/4 rear end?

How do I tell the difference? The car isn't with me right now... I'm a senior at my high school, and we have an auto shop. I will work on it there on monday. Do they have the same differential housing?

I have two chargers with the same drivetrain and rear end, so I'll take a picture of the diff. and post it. The car in the picture is the car with the driveshaft.

Senior in high school.... There's your answer.
Sounds like a classmate is trying to have some fun.

8-1/4 will have a cover on the rear of the axle housing.
8-3/4 unit is bolted in from the front of the housing.

Hello, I too have 2 1973 chargers and I just graduated high school. Small world huh?

Sorry to hear about the driveshaft going missing. Some crappy people out there.

As for the rear end I added some pictures to this post. You may have either a 8 1/4, 8 3/4 or 9 1/4. I'm shooting more towards a 8 1/4 if they are 318 cars.

The 8 1/4 might look slightly different as for the cover, but it still maintains that shape.

This differential is the one off of the SE charger I own. The hardtop car is the other car that the shaft was stolen from. I believe both cars have the same gearing and differential due to the same motor, transmission, and 120 mph speedometer.

Looks like a 8 1/4. If both cars have same tranny/same engine. I'd almost go to a drive train shop with the other driveshaft and have them make you one. You'd never have to worry about balancing, and it'd be perfect. PLus easier to shorten if you go with a different engine/tranny.
