Studs are in the way of mounting headers

i have a 62 Fury with a 383. I put a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads on with studs. I have some new headers with jet hot coating on them and as i was putting on the headers i realized the studs are in the way. Do i grind an 1/8 off the top of the thread or notch the bottom of the header even though they are heat treated.

I had the same issue with my 452 heads. I simply put a nut on the stud first, sliced about 3/8 off the stud and took the nut off to ensure thread alignment.
I really didn't want to mess with the header flange

Same here with Indy heads & TTI's. Got lazy and put bolts back in those holes.

Or get the proper studs from ARP. They have studs that are .025" (2.725" long) shorter and have a longer coarse thread (they screw in deeper). Unfortunately ARP doesn't put them in kits.
Part number is AP2.725-1B

I replaced all the studs in my 383 with 906 heads. Went with Dorman 675-098 and had no issues getting the headers installed.

No reason to use studs on aftermarket aluminum heads with dry holes IMO..just gonna get in the way.

I think the OP is talking about head studs and not header studs..

Take a wiz wheel and trim the tops off the offending head studs. Just don't go lower than the installed height of the nut. Been there.

They are pretty neat, these have a nuisance about them though that I find some What annoying. So the boot is ceramic and there is a positive click when you seat it on the plug, but unlike a typical silcone/rubber boot they spin on the plug very easily...if you bump a wire, it will spin...which leads me to check again and again that it's fully engaged in the plug...I can't help myself and have to go back through and check every single one again every time I see one rotated....
