The 71 satellite I just bought has a 727 auto (383 engine)..buckets and center console. If I want to swap a 4spd, can I use the center console, or was a diff't one made for 4 spd cars?

The console was different. The 4 speed had a cutout at the bottom to accomodate the shifter and obviously the lid was different because the shifter hole was bigger.

Alot of people that switch from auto to standard dont use the console
bench or bucket 4 spd-

My car was a 318 auto with a column. It has a 4 speed with a bench position shifter. I am moving it to the bucket/console position to fit the TKO 5 speed I am putting in. Pedal assemblies can be purchased from Brewers in Ohio. They are great to deal with. They will help you with all you need. I have a 4 speed & bell housing for sale if needed. Not sure what shipping would be though?

his bellhousing won't fit your car
his parts are coming off a small block
you own a big block.

i would suggest before you buy anything to do this
to research out what it is that you really need.
you can waste alot of money and time other wise :icon_santa:

Nope, it's a Big Block 400 man. Yes they will fit.

your statement above would lead one to
believe you have a 318 not a 400.......

Ah, That makes sense, me being vague again. No it is a BB bench style 4 speed currently, but I do have the rods & shifter mount for both Bench & console shifter position. Acquired all of that before deciding to go with a TKO.

Just finishing up a conversion to 5 speed from a 727 on my 71 Charger. The console and top plate are different for Auto vs 4 speed.

The carpet is different as well - Auto, 4 spd Bench, or 4spd bucket seat carpets are all different.

I am holding out for the Mcleod 5 speed got pedals and a stock shifter for my RR the pedals were the toughest thing to find in good shape.

Hey Wookie316,

Went with the TKO 600, Science Friction Stage 2 Street Slayer Clutch, and hydraulic clutch throwout . Bought the complete package from American Powertrain. Not overly pleased with the company. I was told they had all the parts, took my car to a shop to have them install it, sent in my money and then they told me the hyd throwout bearing was on back order. Bunch of crap. Took about 4 weeks to get the part. Then after installation I get the car home and the throwout started leaking. Bad seal from the factory. Took it back to the shop and American Powertrain said the part was not available for 2 months! Then they said they would send a new seal to be installed in the bearing. It leaked also. Finally after some serious bitching at America Powertrain they "found" a new throwout bear which didn't leak.

On the other hand, the shop I had install the set up did a great job! Not only that, they did not charge me for all the extra rework because of the throwout problem.

I give them a A+++++ and would recommend them to anyone:

Kilpatrick Racing in Waukesha, Wi. Jim has forgotten more about Mopars than most people know. Jim is a top notch guy to deal with.

Anyway, after all the drama, I am really please with the set up. Finally have a big block Mopar with a stick shift that I have always wanted.
