Temp gauge sending unit

I've got a 440 motor (1970) and its heater delete. The two heater hose conections at the front of the block are plugged off. Wondering if an aftermarket temperature sending unit will fit in one of those two locations? If not, is there another spot to put a MECHANICAL sending unit? I want to keep the original electrical sending unit where its supposed to be and hooked up. Thanks.

Yes you could adapt any aftermarket guage into those holes very easy..

Thanks, didn't know if the length of the sending unit was too long for those access holes.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. took heater hoses off because the core was leaking. In texas so I don't need that ****. The hole right next to the thermostat has a plug in it. Tried to take it out but that thing is seized in there . I even had the impact on it .....it ain't coming out. so now I just have to get the right size adapters to hook up the aftermarket sending unit. just make sure when you put yours in that the sending unit goes far enough into the waterpump to contact the coolant. You might have to cut the adapters down for the sending unit to get to the water flow.

There are two holes to the left of the thermostat housing. You tried the one next to it and it was seized, did you use the other one?

I have to get the right size adapter, then I will use that hole.

just did this,I got a 1/2 inch adapter from summit but you have to cut it down like krowbar said.

I just put in new triple gauge. Used the fitting that came with it and everything works fine.
