Oil pressure gauge goes to zero

Stop f'n around and screw in a mechanical gauge fitting.

Didn't read all the replies but a 'temp' mechanical gauge will tell you the truth....
^^^ Listen to these gentlemen! Until you know IF you have an oil pressure problem, you really don't want to run the engine assuming you are OK.
Like @Dave6T4 (referenced below), I use my stock gauge in the dash so my car looks factory but plumbed a mechanical gauge that sits on the back of my engine. It's a great additional tool when needed.

With a mechanical gauge you can instantly see if you have an issue. Oil pressure should react pretty much like a tach - when you wing the throttle both should go up quickly.

I also plumbed one into the extra hole at the rear of the engine. This tee's off to a gauge under the dash. With the air cleaner on, it is pretty well hidden.

I would advise just the opposite. Copper has no resilence. Vibration will cause it to crack, break and spew oil all over. While you can't bend to shape like the copper, the plastic will withstand more punishment than the copper. Either way, you still need a grommet to pass through a firewall. Your call.
Better yet....use stainless steel tubing.....

I looked thru the rule book.
The only references I could find were for oil system lines for Top Fuel / Funny Car
Been years since looking at a NHRA rule book but back then, the only requirement for in the car gauges was for a fuel gauge. You COULD NOT run a fuel psi line into the car at all. The gauge had to be electric. Never had any tech tell me that I couldn't run a nylon oil psi tube into the car. Leaks in the firewall had to be sealed....that's a no brainer! If someone has even a small hole/leak in their firewall, it will become just like a torch at high psi at speed when an under hood fire takes place.

Summit has all different lenth braided lines for oil pressure guages.
