Temperature gauge problem

I am trying to get the original temp gauge to work in my 69 Roadrunner. I have grounded the sensor line and the gauge will peg high. I installed a new sensor and tested the ohms on it which showed ~110 ohms at start up and dropping as the engine warmed up. The gauge does not do anything when hooked to the sensor. I have the instrument panel out of the car and want to get the gauge working before I put it back in since it is so easy to R&R. I was wondering if the Voltage Reg could cause this ?I am going to replace it with a solid state one anyway. Thanks for any info.
 
Does your fuel and oil gauges work? And are you ohming the sending unit to chassis
ground? If the other gauges are working and you get a pegged condition on the temp gauge sending wire when grounded and have a low resistance ground from engine to chassis sounds like a faulty sending unit. 110 seems high on the resistance the range should be around 70 ohms cold
 
Check grounds
also what thread sealant did you use
check ohms from block to outside of sender so you know the threads are metal to metal
 
My 69 coronet pegged high and twisted , looked normal when cooled, looked it up in the book and it said ' change it' , so I put in an NOS Guage and changed the 5 volt manual stock regulator for a 50$ Electronic from Real Time Engineering
 
I did not use any sealant on the new sensor and I went to the battery for the ground for the ohlm check. I will check from the sensor to the motor in the morning. My gas gauge works but is an after market sending unit with the gauge reading 5/8 when the tank is full. The factory oil sensor is an idiot light and my aftermarket gauge is hooked directly to the peressure system. Thanks again for your questions. Any more thoughts will be appreciated.
 
check the voltage limiter and grounds then for sure and your on the right track with a soild state limiter. let us know what you find
