The fun of running a Hemi in a B-body

I’m not too familiar with Hemi stuff…. 14 degrees difference between intake and exhaust running duration; Is that normal? Most wedge stuff I’m familiar with utilizes 4-8 degrees more on the exhaust side.

I am curious myself about the split on the duration like that as well. It appears to be going in a race car with a cross ram intake. I wonder if that has anything to do with the split duration? Maybe he can give us more info.

The one we just got for our customers 528 is 272/275 @ .050 on 110 LSA, .662/.660.

My dads is 286/290 @ .050 on 112 LSA and .790/.775.

Here are what the new covers look like on the engine. I am very happy with their look. My dad said we definitely have more room over the other covers but the shock is already unbolted from the work we did the other week. We might get lucky and not have to drop the shock to pull the cover. Guess time will tell.

If they weren't santhuff front shocks, and they were his old vikings, I know they would clear without dropping the shock because we were able to cut the excess threads off. The santhuff you don't have that option because your adjuster is at the top of the shock, not the bottom.

Isn't it funny how a pair of Bartons valve covers change room around the engine compartment! I have Gerst tubular front suspension, can slide the engine left and right to get the valve covers off. Moved my battery tray back to the engine compartment, had to move it up to the radiator support. Just the little things!
Thank you. Elephants take up a lot of room, keep after it you guys!

its an off the shelf crane cam.

the way i understand it is the port thats not as efficient in flow gets more duration........

11-1 motor using same component's as shown went 870HP..
like the parts , all but the dual plug valve covers <leakers !!
yeah thats what i have heard, they will either go on the motor or the wall....to be continued.
But the Hemi is much more expensive than the wedge.
Yep funny thing is the heads were cheaper and Lighter than the wedge But the Valve train gets C$azy, and u would think the Valve covers r made with Gold..

Agreed!!! The new valve covers were $1250 with a new moroso breather. And we bought the Barton rockers back in 2020 when they were much cheaper than they are now, and they were still close to $4k but hey, it’s all fun

My covers are old polished RBRE covers that I bought used cheap & I sandblasted them and painted with wrinkle paint.

My RBRE rockers are from 2007 and still going strong. I replace the rollers and rebuild the shafts every couple of years and Zyglo and inspect everything at each rebuild.

Looks right at home in there!

I am running the chrome valve covers that came with the crate engine from Mopar Performance on my 478 Hemi. I bought a pair of the reproduction 70/71 stamped steel black wrinkled valve covers to use on my 426 Hemi engine that is in the machine shop now. They look like decent pieces for $300.00.

i have a used set of of the NY restomod chrome covers i got on the Cheap , Heavy pieces that appear to bulge out on the sides for rocker clearance that will probably go on the motor.

They definitely need the rocker clearance. On my friends 472 Hemi Mopar Performance engine the valve cover split because the rocker was rubbing against the valve cover. I clearanced mine so they wouldn't touch the covers.

Looks great! The Mopar Hemi ones my dad has as well and he ran them on his Hemi that is original to the car. We tried to put them on this engine but they dont have enough rocker clearance. They won’t even go on because of the rockers.

I just checked yesterday and not only do the new Barton covers look awesome, they clear the passenger side shock! Wow. We finally caught a break.

Indy/RBRE offer a passenger side rocker cover that has a shock tower clearance provision cast into it. Hard to tell but if you look closely you can see the relieved area on mine.

I had Moroso sheet-metal covers, Indy cast, and now modified stock covers with spacers under them. The first engine went into my Aspen pro-stocker, and the second and third engines are pumpgas units.

This was the last set of hand-ported hemi heads, done by Jeff at MCH. Also the first set of Jesel rocker gear for aluminum heads. We had to send them a head, because the iron SS/H iron stuff were different.
