The more garish, the more collectible?

I recall the exact moment in 1971, when in a grocery store parking lot, a Sublime Superbird pulled into a parking space next to my mom's 1970 Impala. She said, "That's the ugliest car I've ever seen." I thought it was cool but I was 14 at the time.

In 1997 When I bought the Camaro SS in red I considered the orange and white 30th Anniversary Camaro. It was even faster than a regular SS since it had the LT4 engine upgrade. It just struck me as being too far out there on looks. Prices have gone up faster on the '97 Anniversary LT4 SS's. The Hellcats with the giant cat logo on the rear quarters are iffy. What cars do you think are garish but have potential to rise faster in value than other cars?

I think Mr/ Norm's Challengers are awful but who knows?http://www.mrnorms.com/new/Vehicle_Packages/50TH_ANNIVERSARY_GSS_CHALLENGER.html

My dad bought a 1978 Corvette new and at the time I thought the pace car special edition was the coolest (I was little). While it seems to have appreciated better than other '78s, I'm glad I didn't bet my retirement on it.

When gas is not being sold much and people are moved from location to location by an electric car via an app I do tend to wonder what the older muscle cars let alone the newer muscle cars we have will be worth if anything. We here might be the mad Max’s of tomorrow hording gusoline and wearing leathers lol

IMHFO Anything 'garish or not'
if it's made in limited #'s & performance based
sold by select dealerships, select regions etc.
or special paint/decals etc.
&
IMO has 'a good chance' of appreciating more
than a common or run of the mill & right off the showroom floor
that's a basic car, blasé paint scheme, that's mass produced,
even with the exact same options or engine etc.

I think any of the special Drag Pack cars will do well
even those with the
"garish big stickers Demon or Hellcat heads"

rarity, albeit doesn't always mean "more value"
can add more appreciation in the long term, go figure...

Garish ?
California Special Mustang coupes/notchbacks come to mind
I hate Mustang coupes, any years, I do like fastbacks or sport-roofs,
but the CS edition didn't come that way

Garish ? Certainly not in my eyes it's not...
They couldn't hardly sell the Superbirds, now they do pretty damn well...
Hell some (few) were converted back to RR's, back in the day...
It was said of them, to paraphrase;
Obnoxious huge Plymouth banner on the sides,
a shitty looking mandatory vinyl roof, covering bad rear window treatments
a crappy column shift (?) with no console or bench seat & some big *** wing
& then there's that fugly pointy noses...
(That's certainly not my opinions)

Beauty & style is in the eyes of the beholders
I think all the new Camaro's body styles
are fugly as hell
& I'm not a GM or Camaro hater...
Well except the COPO's they're bad ***,
just because they're drag specific & COPO's

I feel the same way about the new Mustangs body styles
Now the Shelby GT500 or GT350
or the "Garish" Cobra's Drag cars are cool
IMO the rest are all fugly as hell to me...

The Trans Am 1974-81 was considered "GARISH"
or over done/over the top to many
it's doing very well today too, took a while but it's come around
I've also had a few cool Trans Am's over the years,
I loved my 70, 73, 89 GTA, 94 25th anniv., 99 30th anniv. editions
Some people hated them....
Had a few 67-68 Z28's, late 70's Z28's & 76-77 Rally Sports,
late 80's & early 90's IROC & Z28's too
all had some gody flamboyant "GARISH" stickers & or stripes,
they were all popular as hell too :poke:

A few years of mid late 70's my Power Wagons
had gody stickers/paint schemes too
I personally loved em'

Depends on the person, taste (might even be great foresight)
what you may like ?
I may think it sucks, is fugly as hell

Like the Bugatti Veyron's
I think they're still just fugly *** cars,
no mater how bad *** they are
I feel the same way about most mid/rear engine Ferrari's or Lambo's too...

Some will think the 2005-2006 Ford GT in Gulf delivery schemes
'are garish', I think it's cool as hell...
the newest version not so much, but it's growing on me...

it takes all types

I loved my Gulf painted Ford GT! I loved to race it around the track. That color, that symbol was prized by me and everyone from that era! I dreamt about it. Would never have or would now call that Garish! I still wish I had that car along with the track and transformers and spare brushes......

Side point:
The wing cars weren't ever intended to be attractive or stylish. In fact, Ma lost money on every one
they made reportedly.
As most of us Mopar types already know, they were built in order to satisfy the homologation requirements
of NASCAR.
That's it.
Most of the garden variety, non-car enthusiast car-buying public did find them freakish, ugly, outrageous.
Many were concerned with what their friends and neighbors would think if they brought one home.
Still others couldn't reason with their high price tags and insurance rates.

That was most people.....but then, we Mopar types have never been like most types, eh?
We've never been concerned with what the neighbors thought.
We aren't interested in popularity contests.
Performance and not being like everyone else were more like it for us - performance over merely owning
cars that put on a show of being pretty and popular.
I can still remember the first time I saw a wing car as a kid. I didn't know what it was, of course, but I
knew even at that young age that it was something special.

It's always sort of amused me how the rest of the hobby eventually got around to finding Mopars
interesting and valuable and such. The collectors and investors drove prices up on our rides and
garnered the general automotive enthusiasts' attention eventually as a result.
Myself, like so many other old school Mopar types, never were motivated by such things as being
pretty or valuable; that's not why we got into them to begin with, after all.
Us old school Mopar types kinda sneered at 'em, asked 'em what took them so long. :)
