The Plymouth Addiction...

awesome looks great, I had a 71 satellite in high school these pics with the fender turn signal indicators make me miss it. Everyone thought those were so cool.

Miss my 71 satellite RR clone, can't believe you let the black one go, nice new project though!

Just wanted to give an update for anyone interested. The car started up and is running pretty good right now. Smokes a bit after a while. Still not too shabby for being locked in a building for years with no one messing with it. Having not seen the road in 17 years.

I went through the whole fuel system, cleaned out the tank and lines, new filters, new hoses, cleaned carb. Went through the ignition system, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Went through the electrical system, soldered all bad connections, cleaned grounds, new battery and connections. And I went through the whole cooling system and cleaned / flushed it out, new t-stat. Replaced all the fluids. Hit the key and it started right up.

Next week my brake parts arrive and I will go through that system as well, then we will see if she wants to go for a quick lap around the block.

Here's a video. The end was cut off by my phone running out of space... Enjoy!

Dang that's a beautiful car. It still amazes me how much of it is still in great condition. Add the motor to the list.

Thanks carfreak. It has really come to life. Seems like it really wants to live again.

It seems that the more I run the car, the better it runs. The smoking has really died off. I've let it get up to operating temp a few times and it seems that has helped to soften up the valve seals. I'm not one to count my chickens before they've hatched though so time will tell. Going to change the oil again before I run it much more. Hopefully that will help to flush out the nastiness that had to be in the engine. It probably needs a couple flushes before I call it good. I would prefer to err on the side of caution.

The brakes are getting a complete service this week as soon as I get my grubby hands on those new parts. Will probably do a carb rebuild soon too just so I know that it's all good.

It has a few small electrical issues to iron out in the meantime. Headlights, dash lights, and radio don't kick on. Turn sigs were working but they took a bit of a dump as well.

Altogether, I am very happy with this car. It has been very friendly to me. We aren't fighting one another, lol. Other cars I have worked on over they years have fought me tooth and nail but this old gal has really been a pleasure. I've grown attached to it and am very proud of it.

I know all about the car fighting tooth and nail lol. Mine's being a real pain. Glad you finally got one that's willing to work with you.

Been a while since I posted anything... After I got the car running, replaced the brakes, and fixed the majority of my wiring issues, I stopped on this car for several months. I built a 77 RamCharger for my wife and right after I finished that one we moved back to Texas so that whole process was a pain in the *** and took some time. Hell, I had to get a whole semi-truck to transport our cars then had to set up the garage again.

Anyway, I started back on this car and cut out all the rust and replaced all that with patch panels for my parts car. I stripped the whole interior out and started on the body work. I just painted the car yesterday in my garage. I went with 2013 Dodge "Header Orange". I'll wet-sand and buff next week, then I'll start putting it back together. Going to re-do the whole interior back to the stock white/black bucket interior. It'll have the white reflective strobe stripe and some 17" chrome Cragar S/S's. Look for it to be finished early next year.

*Also noteworthy* Shortly after moving, I was out and about in the Cuda and just down the road from me I saw a small shop and there was a 69 Road Runner sitting outside. I pulled up and the guy immediately came out. He took me in his shop and there was a 69 Charger and a 70 Challenger convertible. Turns out this guy is the local Mopar "guru" and everyone in the area brings him their stuff. Long story short we became fast friends and he's building me a nasty 440/727 and it should be in the car by the end of the year. Can't wait!

I realized the other day that if I ever moved, it'd take my own semi truck....lol

Thanks for the update, I like the Orange, I can't wait to see more progress!

Color-sanded the whole sha-bang and buffed it out. SHEEE-IT, I am so glad I am done with the paint. That was a LOT of damn work... And to think, this is the second 72 Plymouth B Body that I've done this to in the last year. Am I a glutton for punishment or what?!?!

I was gonna get a staggered set of 17" Cragar S/S's but as luck would have it, they are sold out and backordering new orders til next year so instead I went with a staggered set of 17" American Racing Torq Thrust 2's. They should be here next week. Had to special order those bastards too but a week is better than months to wait.

And yeah, I got primer on the original road wheels but no big deal, those old wheels needed some work anyway.

Eventually I am going to do an Air Grabber set-up on this car so the scoop you see is only a temporary deal to add a little something to the otherwise boring hood. And the first 72 I bought (back in the late 90's) had this exact same hood scoop on it so it's a bit of a "tip of the hat" to my 1st Mopar love.

So now I'll begin installing all the exterior FUN stuff. All the chrome will be new with the exception of the rear bumper. I've got all the new weatherstripping to install and detail out the trunk area.

I'm hoping in less than a month, my engine guy is gonna give me a call saying that my engine and transmission is ready and I'll take it down there so he can do the 440/727 drivetrain swap. While the car is away, I will do all the work I have to do to the interior (which is a lot) but that'll keep me busy while the car is away.

Anyway, I'd like to think that, for the most part, I have climbed this mountain and it's all downhill from here. We will see though. I am pretty happy at the moment though so I will just relish in that.
