My first day on the job with the California Highway Patrol in South Los Angeles in 1983 (well first 10 days) I was trained by Officer John Fernandez. I just found an online article that a few years before I went to work there, Officer Fernandez killed an unarmed man with a CHP shotgun. Sad story but I guess he wasn't fired. We got along well when working together.

Just did a random newspaper search to find out what happened to my "partner" after all these years and this is the article that popped up.
