Just because our bank accounts are dying doesn't mean the hobby is. I would prefer to think of it as a bubble effect - unfortunately it seems to mostly be a bubble on parts. Doesn't seem as though the finished cars are going up at the same rate. Just my observation.......

i refuse to pay 500 bucks for a gas cap or 300 for that matter .... Duesenberg maby ... old satellite driver no ... The younger folks see prices like this and stick with an 86 iroc .... and ya have to admit ... carlisle prices are way out of line.

Most used cars are worth more in parts than they are whole.

**** those guys in particular. A gas cap should never cost more than $8 in any circumstance, imo.

It is what ot is if you need it you'll buy it for any price! I needed a piece of trim could only find bad ones no repops a nice org came up for $400 I hated buying it but I needed it! The next set that came up was $600 so I said I did ok ! And I try to off set to cost by selling stuff ! That's all we can do

The market is working.
Those of us that will -not- pay a particular asking price for a part are setting the real price by not buying.

I hear and see this same topic over and over.---It is fun to post about someone asking silly money for a car or a part. They are not moving the market. They are fishing for the market.

How often do we see a post about someone that got something for little or nothing spent?

IMO sellers that ask over the top prices are not setting the market. They are trying to find it and paranoid about missing that last dollar from that last needy buyer.

And that is my point ..... Most younger people can't pay 3 days pay for one part for something thay use as a driver or just to keep there dads old car running on the weekend. I just payed 175 bucks for the 273 commando air cleaner i needed with no problum .... why??? Cause the ones at carlisle were 400. I guess what im saying is .. its better to deal with a mopar guy on here .. than some guy with a ford van full of stuff he found in a barn and only see profit. Thay are the ones that are killing it. I get the part of getting as much as you can for something .... but dam ... some people should kiss ya first and use lube.

Few years back I bought a driver quality drivers side mirror for $2. Spent an hour fixing it (flopped around like Al Gore's ding ding).

So I guess that means I revived the dying hobby and the mirror? Al Gore's on his own.

Yeah it was terrible to get that money together $400 is a lot of money to me especially since I haven't worked in 5 years

Don't think its dieing it just takes longer to save up for parts people think are gold plated seen a eBay post for a 66 coronet grill for 3500 screw that i paid 3500 for my whole car lol.

It's just supply and demand. I have an orange widget. They only made a few. I want $1000 for it. You could give a rat's *** about it. The guy who has all the other color widgets EXCEPT an orange one, May think that's worth it for him.

300 has been the average price for one of these for he last 5 years.

The trim from the other side has also gone up as people have been using those to fabricate a gas cap.

I remember back in the 80's/90's, my brother couldn't keep a cap on his 66 4D as they kept getting stolen. That was when they only cost 20-30 bucks- Now it's even worse.

You are 100% correct, and these sellers are screwing themselves more than anyone else. There's a very limited quantity for these parts, but there's also a very limited number of buyer's who want them. These folks have a mindset that at some point, someone is going to need that part and will pay their price for it, but what's actually happening is folks selling it for less are snagging up the buyer $$$ long before they get to them.
