Timing advance???

I played with timing a little at the track, using msd pro dizzy. changed springs, mine liked 38 deg all in at 2500. I also have 2.94 rear gears with 3k converter. still adjusting on it so its set in stone.

I run about 20 degrees initial advance on my 451. That is where it runs the best, and has the most low end torque/throttle response. Then total mechanical advance of 38*. You have to limit the distributor to 18 degrees of mech advance to run this much initial.

Agree Gary, I have added a couple more degrees initial also. I'm now at 18 initial, 37 w/mechanical, and about 52 total w/vacuum. I noticed my 440 liked that extra 3 degrees initial too. I'm at the point where it is running the best it ever has and I'm tired of tweaking it. It's now good enough for me.

Thanks guys, I at least have an idea of where about it should be now.
