I have a big block 496 stroker with a pretty hefty cam 625 lift 275 @ .050 duration, 11.5 to 1 compression, 456 gears, manual shift auto and 1050 Dominator running on E85 alcohol.

I am running .098 jets squared. The problem l have is that l was running pretty rich when cruising so l was fouling plugs. I really didn't want to jet dowm any farther so l began to experiment with the timing. I run a pro billet msd with a 14 degree bushing. I set the initial timing at 32 and total was 46. The car runs great! I decided to experiment with locking out the distributor and setting the timing at 37 and the car ran like ****. I bumped it up to 42 and it ran much better but not as good as at 46. Is anyone out there running E85 with lots of timing?

I think 'coro440' means he's waiting for further "enlightening" comments, so I'll start with- what/how big is ur starter to crank over a big block with that much initial timing?

With the camshaft he has and that low of compression, it probably wants that much initial to idle properly. I've run 11.9 compression on 91 octane and had the engine fire easily with the distributor locked at 37 degrees.

OK guys, I have a tuff stuff high torque mini starter and I'm running INDY-1 heads. The car seems to LOVE a lot of timing and I have my distributor locked and set at 46 degrees. Idle is nice and so is the throttle response. I ordered an MSD starter-saver from Summit Racing today but I honestly don't believe I'm going to need it. I pump the gas pedal twice turn the key and one crank and it fires right up! That was a cold start at 50 degrees this morning. I have never heard of anyone I know running this much timing but I heard that was how Big Daddy Don got the Hemi to run when nobody else could.....give it as much timing as it will handle and that is what I did. I don't think I need to go any higher At 40 miles an hour in high gear I stomped it and smoked my old school 11" bias ply cheater slicks. It's running nice!
