Do you guys think a buyer will put much stock in a magnaflux and boil job on a for sale block ?
It will for sure add a couple hundred to the price of a block and caps from a unknown ( to the buyer )
shop.

Yes it will. I have it done on every block I sell. I would hate to be the buyer of a grungy block, take it to the machine shop, and then be told it is junk. I am very lucky as my guy does it for $50 per block.

Thanks, I was leaning that way, my shop is $90 for each service.

I bought a block once that looked alright. Had it cooked and magged and every frost plug hole had hairline cracks around it. Lesson learned.

A guy near me has a 340 block for sale he had cleaned and mangafluxed, it really makes you feel much better as a buyer seeing that

That prices will reflect it as it should...
be a good thing knowing it is a good block to start
1 less variable...

I'd still not just 100% trust
"just someone else", if you don't know them
I'd still trust by verify
make sure, it's not just more BS, to jack up the prices
they batter have paperwork or I'd say F--- U... & move on...

Couldn't agree more. If you do it, keep the paperwork and pass it on to the buyer. I paid top dollar for a D440HP block that had supposedly been hot tanked and magged and was good to go. My local machine shop insisted on doing their own tests and the block turned out to be crap (four cracks). The seller, who has been banned from FBBO (not related to my situation) used the "well I was told it was good by the guy I got it from" excuse and, big surprise, didn't know the shop that supposedly magged it.

Absolutely. I'd never bought or sold a block without either party knowing it is good to go.

Oh I had, back in the 70's & early 80's
a lot was NOT used up junk "yet" though, or not on it's 4th rebuild, etc...
It didn't seem like so many people were scammers or shysters back then either...
Or I was just lucky (?)

Today, I'd never do it
without having it checked out or solid proof of it being sound/good,
especially used cast iron parts or any kind
& the paperwork was verified, by the shop that did it, w/receipts etc.
&/or a money back guarantee, shipping back 'paid for', if it was bad
& 'in writing' w/signatures

a lot different dealing with people today

Even on here,
I had a guy (won't name) I thought I knew well
he said;
"he would buy, for sure" & he asked to save them parts for him"
(like $2,100-$2500 value, for $1600 + 1/2 the shipping costs ($350),
& a few freebees, I was going to give him, I knew he wanted & needed
)
He kept saying;
"he was waiting for a big check, but 'for sure', he wanted the parts,
that it was a done deal, please hold them for him"

all got boxed up packed nicely, for shipping, all got put on a crate & wait...

then he stiffed me, :BangHead:

I shouldn't have done it, being a nice guy, I got screwed, trusted his word
I should have known better, not like me, after I played his game for over 2 months...
I could have sold them 10 times over 'during that time',
to several different people...
& then He wanted do a 'friends & family deal, on PayPal',
so he could put them on his card, only way he could afford the parts/all NEW parts...

I think it was partially because he wanted to put it on his CC/he's broke
acted all like he had the $$$, all talk :blah: , but doesn't/didn't actually have the $$
he couldn't afford to pay for them, or the check was never coming or something else (?)
I don't know...

Sorry but, I was having none of that, ever, 'karma's a bitch',
he got his in the long run, & it was nothing to do with me either...

Did blocks like that too and even sonic tested them....the buyer didn't want to pay for the extra cost of doing that plus 150 bucks for a bare block. Next few I sold were just raw and told the prospective buyer what the costs would be to check the block plus 150 bucks or....buy the block for 150 and have it checked yourself and if it turned out to be bad, I'd refund the 150. That's what usually happened and never had one come back.

Out here in the Desert, unless it is a specialty or race block,
I cannot get people to hardly pay what the cost of
hot tanking and mag it when it is done. Let alone
pressure checking it for what it cost. I will or spend
$150. to $200 or more like $400 with pressure checking
it and everyone still want to buy it for $200. when it is done.
I would be better of scrapping them most of the time.

Freight is so expensive that it is not worth shipping them
anywhere for any possible buyers. I do not blame them when
it costs more for the shipping than the block costs.

When I live in So Cal there were a lot of people in the area but
not so many folks in Nevada.
