To Those of You Born
1940 - 1979

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please
read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside, playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times,we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers problem solvers and inventors problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.
For the rest of us...pass this on.

Very true growing up in the 60's, many of the antics I did...ahh didn't eat worms, but we ran around the streets with our BB guns even after dark and just told each other 'aim low' lol! Almost every time I took out the go-cart our local PD caught me on the back roads! Began to wonder if he hung around knowing I'd do it again...had to finally stop as was warned one more time it would be confiscated. Had some nasty bike spills and once the chain broke while I was popping a wheelie...my balls were flattened; but eventually found out they still...ahh worked. My brother and I would fight in the back seat until mom or dad had enough...then just did it again after we figured they cooled off. Yep water from the hose...no filtered water then. Out the whole day until we dropped. I drove for nearly 15 years before getting into the seat belt habit...my father-in-law guilt-ed me into it as car seats for the kids became required saying it sets a good example for the kids. Had to agree. Yeah I remember life without cell phones and computers and now consume more time than we'd care to admit.

............all of this, and more. I'm 49 this year, and pass on as much of this as I can to my son and daughter. Semp Fi, and god bless America.

I agree we survived a lot. I try to obey the laws, but I still find it hard to respect the laws that protect us from ourselves. Once this was a free country. We are raising generations of kids that are unable to think for themselves. We all learned from the mistakes we made and it made us stronger and smarter.

It is easy pickens to bash the millenials BUT it really comes down to WHO made them they way that they are.
If you feed a dog, train a dog and house a dog, do you then blame that dog for not being able to take care of itself?
No, you do not.
I have no kids. God must have figured that I lacked the patience or something, who knows.
I do feel though that if I were to have had them, I would have instilled a more traditional type of values. No participation trophies!

I'm not bashing anyone, the laws we have made to protect US from ourselves were certainly imposed by us to make it easier to raise and protect us and our children, but it's a double edged sword which makes each generation less responsible.

I blame the entitlement mentality on Democrats. Since the weak kneed GOP all but abandoned the school system, the far left Democrats have been brainwashing kids with societal standards and beliefs that have adversely shaped our society.

Don't get me started on schools. We have students in colleges that can't make change without the computer cash register in front of them. I had to take a dollar in change to class in the 3rd grade. We were taught to not only make change, but also to count it back to a person. In actuality that is the way we were taught to make change. To this day when I purchase something, I usually know what change I'm supposed to get back.

I spent most of my late teens and 20's driving either a 65 Mustang (sorry...) or the 69 Sport Satellite. I never felt comfortable unless I had that lap belts tight. No shoulder belt in either car. Well, the S.S. had a shoulder belt you could hook up but I never did.
I don't understand how people can drive without at least a lap belt to keep you in that seat.
The only think I was ever comfortable driving without the belt hooked up was a forklift. Over 300 hours per year for 8 years and un-belted the whole time. Glad she never tipped.

im 62 and remember my doctor coming to my house front door never locked if I did something wrong and law caught me I got slapped up side the head and sent you home just don't get caught a second time mom and pops grocery shops yeah it was a good time.I have a herd of grandkids they shoot guns ride four wheelers and motorcycles and are in sports and I teach them no free lunch also 3 things Love the Lord, Love your family, and love your country.

I blame the entitlement mentality on Democrats.

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but you blame Democrats for EVERYTHING.

Have you ever tried going just one week without making a political statement?

....I'd advise just letting that one go sir.....been a tough year.....no worries. I get you.

At risk of off-topic while piggy-backing your comment...we have become deluged with 'election cycles' they NEVER friggin end in our country! Media spends ALL their time on elections; there is no lapse! Blame? It's the Supreme Court allowing 'corporations are people' (this move was total BS in my view) and super-pac's...there's endless cash in the system today so we're bombarded from left, right, and in-between media 24/7/365.

No. Have the Democrats done anything this past three years other than trying to UNDO a fair election?

Born in 81, describes my childhood. You deplorables are my only sociol media.

Born in 1976, described my childhood also, no Democrats or Republicans, here, when I was a kid the only thing I care was to go outside to play with my friends, yes I drink from the hose too, I was the generation that start with the consoles in their homes ( Atari) have one, but get bored pretty quickly and I prefer to go outside to play with my friends, yes I "fish" tadpoles and pour then into the water pile in my house, that really freaks out my mom, how many times I fall from my bicycle? lost count, also lost count of the cuts, scratches, broken bones, fall from the trees so many times, those were the good days, play soccer until it was dark, nothing to worry about except for the dinner... miss those days where I like to be with my grandmaI, when she pet my hair and ... well i have a GREAT CHILDHOOD, thanks mom, dad, grandma, aunt Soco and my long list of lost childhood friends.

I forgot,I used clothes diapers too, when I was a baby.

One of the things that I like about Mexican immigrants is that they often don't buy into the touchy-feely bullshit. Kids get spanked too !
