Some us begin to celebrate Mexican Independence Day (Spain loses Mexico in 1810 after about a 300 year reign).
May 5th, Mexico beat French at battle of Puebla. Holiday but mostly a Gringo drinking day for what ever reason.I thought it was independence from France? Or is that May 5th?
I thought it was independence from France? Or is that May 5th?

No, independence was from Spain, after an 11-year war, the cake war (vs France) and the victory against France in Puebla on May 5 at the hands of General Ignacio Zaragoza was a Pyrrhic victory, the battle but the war was lost, France established a puppet government with a member of European royalty, who ultimately died of a fission and his wife was left crazy, an event in history.
