I have a question. I'm doing a SBERBANK to BB Conversion. I'm going with a 440 bored over .30 with a fairly aggressive cam. Also I'm going with a Air Grabber Scoop.

My question is. Right now I have a Thermoquad set up, can I build it with all the rods, crank and heads set up for a 6 pack but run the Thermoquad set up until I can afford to get the 6 pack set up. If it helps it will be a 4 speed.
Thanks in advance,

For the COOL factor the six pack is great but a good 4 barrel intake and carb will make good power and be a little easier to set up and tune. There are mixed opinions on the tuning aspect but I ran one in the 80s with only jet changes and it ran well. It was a 70 type that was cast iron and was heavy. Good luck with the build.

Yes, you can totally do that. I love six packs, but I ran a Thermoquad on a 400 and thought it was a great carburetor, so your plan is a good one. The only drawback I see is that the air grabber air cleaners for 4 bbl. and six packs are both expensive and not the same.... (you'd need two air cleaners or don't fully hook up the air grabber until you have the six pack in and only buy the six pack air grabber air cleaner).

Build it the way you want it, so you can enjoy it....They are all money pits....

Run the thermoquad while saving some $$$ and then do the full six patch change including the grabber...

Yes as stated the six pack is very cool. I was running one on my bird. I ordered a new electronic dist. and had to pull my six pack off for fitment reasons. I installed an offenhouser 360 with a 750 carter competition series carb. The stock HP 440 runs better with more power and fuel mileage stayed the same. So for what it is worth the only reason I would go back to a six pack would be the cool factor.

Thanks all for your input. I'm just going to run my Thermoquad, I already have it, it will save me major $. That cash could go elsewhere on my resto.
thanks again.

Lots of opinions about 4 barrels being faster than six packs. Don't believe everything you read.

What is the "going price" nowadays for a cast iron 3x2 intake manifold?

IDK The actual going price but I think I think I remember seeing one going for around $400, if I recall it was in pretty rough shape.

paid 2K Australian for my complete 70-71 set up with iron manifold and a new in the box centre carb

I paid $50.00 for my aluminum setup---------------back in the 70's!

Complete carbs and manifolds go for around 2.5-3k

I sold a iron intake 5 years ago for 500.
