what am i trying to go for when adjusting a kickdown on a early 727 is there a sweet spot or a norm to set it to or?

Hold your throttle wide open with the vehicle off. Check to see that your kickdown lever on the transmission is all the way back. If it isn't adjust it accordingly. This should be all you need to do.

i've had some problems taking all the slack out. i adjust to where there isn't any slack then back off 2 turns. sometimes the tranny won't downshift when coming to a stop with all the slack adjusted out. your results may vary.

If you get yourself a Chrysler chassis manual, it should give specs on when an automatic is supposed to shift under light throttle pressure. And also under full throttle. I am not sure off the top of my head.

Gear ratio and tire diameter will also affect shift points, adjust as 367 suggested and you should be good to go.
