So if one were to go from an automatic to a manual tranny, would that require disassembling your motor and rebalancing it?
Neal

It they are neutral balance (Internal) =rebalance not needed
If engine is a external balance engine IE 360 440 castcrank or 6 Pack
or some other cast cranks = the flywheel should be balanced with same amount
of offset weught rthat the convertor had. the flywheel manufacturers should be able to
supply one (although I have not ordered one for 40 years that way).

Most balance shops will gladly take your new and old flywheels and match the balance if they have a mandrel for it.

Are we allowed to know what kind of motor it is we're hypothetically talking about?

It is internally balanced and no change will be needed.
Be sure it is drilled for the pilot shaft bushing.
If not - I think you can get a special pilot bushing that is smaller OD.
The crank is hard to drill out if not factory drilled to correct size!

You can use the large mount roller bearing and cut the input shaft down. Not proud, but I've had to do it.

Make sure you also check the runout on the bellhousing and use offset dowels to correct the center or you will impact the balance.
