What could be the causes of the front pump bushing to come out and weld itself on the torque converter ? 1976 Trans 727 behind a 400.
ok thanks for info !Overheated?and pump expanded. Or perhaps pump failed first.I'm sure there'll be other guesstimates.
Is the engine and trans a matching pair from factory or was there an engine or trans swap. Sometimes when you swap an engine the alignment dowels are off. This mostly happens on manual trans when you put a blow shield on. I put a blow sheld on my Dodge and had to change dowels for an offset pair. For an auto trans it the same process as with a manual trans. The place you use for reference is the O.D. where the pump fits the trans case. You probably have to remove most of the guts of trans. If you ever put a smaller high stall convertor You MAY need to grind some of the pump housing. Hemi trans pump housings are ground for clearance. Around the front seal and the rib that goes toward bottom of trans. Otherwise convertor won't go in far enough. Guy I know had a garage put a Fairbanks Hemi convertor in his 440 GTX and screwed it up.
No, trans rebuilt and different converter with 2400 stall and from 11in to 10 in.Are they factory mated or swapped.
Hughes converter -Possible missing dowel. Never had to run offsets with an automatic. Trans overheated, possibly. Bushing high spots not relieved when it was staked? Whose converter was it? Babbitt or standard bronze bushing?

This happens at times when there is a bad trans to engine ground or other vehicle ground issues. The ground arcs from converter hub to pump bushing and finally fuses both together. If the back of the block is painted or face of the trans then this could be the problem. We always run an extra ground from trans to chassis.
