I have found a problem with my trans torque shaft and bracket. My car came with a 904 column shift originally and now I have a 727. I am running a 318. The problem is that the shaft is contacting the trans case and is at an angle (up towards the top of trans). The trans bracket is mounted on top of the trans ear. Through another forum and friends, I have found that the 904 had a longer shaft and the 727 had a shorter shaft. I am looking for information/pics of correct linkage. A friend of mine has a 70 Bee BB 727 column shifted to copare to. His shaft is 9" end to end with 1" overhang to the right of the bushing on mounting bracket. Mine is 10 1/4" end to end and has 2 3/16 overhang, therefore contact! Soulution is to cut the shaft. Second problem is the angle. My shaft angles up alot from the frame to the trans. His is pretty much horizontal and the bracket is mounted on top of the trans ear like mine. Is there a different frame bracket also? Does anyone have pics/measurements/ideas on this?
Thanks!

I also have another idea what could be causing the problem. I believe the current 727 came out of a van and it is date/stamped 75 on the v body and casing. Do/did all 727 have the same mounting tab/ear in the same place? Could this trans have a higher tab/ear due to it being in a van? A year correct trans ear may be lower. I stil lhave not made it to my friends house to compare. Is anybody elses torque shaft horizontal and not angled? i think any 68-70 B Body 727 would compare.
Tonight could be the night to cut the shaft and fab a new bracket and pray I can find a new bushing for it.

You should also take in to consideration that the lever ON THE TRANS ITSELF might be "clocked" differently than on the 904. There were different levers and they can make a difference

Thanks fo the info 69RR. I got the job done today. A custom, one of a kind hand fabbed bracket and a $2 bushing from a trans shop a few towns away. Ma Moper wanted $37.xx for the bushing, OUCH! It looks like a factory piece and you'd have to look hard to tell the difference. I did have to adjust the shift lever linkage after it was put together, just like the manual said to do. It shifts great and feels good.
