Is there a special tool made to pull the selector shaft seal out of the case or does the valve body have to be removed?

It does look tight , I think the real trick is how do I install the new one, no space to tap with a hammer

Channel locks/ C clamp, and a socket

I use a large cap screw and nut with a couple of flat washers to draw the seal into place.

I realized that and tried to delete my answer but, couldn't. It does do a good job if the VB is out though.

Showed how in both my Superbird cleanup for Talledega thread, on here, and my 69 Swinger thread on A bodies. Both in the car and the Swinger for extra fun with headers. No special tools, couple of drywall screws .... didn't even pull the Swingers pan.
