Ok here goes. Have a 383 Road runner. Put the Hurst shifter on today after cleaning it and putting it back together. Now after checking and setting it up look's like away form me and up for first then down for second. The towards me up for third and down for forth. All the way away from me and up for revers. The trans. is a PP833 2814 0004 stamped on the plate and above that is 9138417. It is a 69 trans. Know you guy's are more Knowledgeable on Mopar than I. Just wondered if this is right. The shifter dose not want to go to revers. But the trans is not mounted and only have a box end wrench in where the shifter goes. So here is a pic. of the combo. Appreciate any ideas or help. blue69runner

Ok I notice you don't have any of the shift linkage on the shifter. So I'll give you the correct shift pattern but without crawling under my car and looking I can't tell you which rod goes where.
All the way to the left and forward toward the front of the trans is reverse.
Coming out of reverse with the shifter handle in the center. straight up toward the front of the trans is first.
Straight back toward the rear of the trans is second.
Out of second and all the way left and forward toward the front of the trans is third.
Then straight back toward the rear of the trans is fourth.
I hope this is helpful

That what I thought. Some thing must be wrong or what I saw on U tube was not like my 833.

Then the shifter I have must be wrong. Darn. To get revers have to go all the way away from me and up. This what happens when buying stuff at 3 in the morning and told it was a Hurst shifter off a roadrunner.

You guy's are right. It has been a long day. But the revers dose not want to work with the wrench. Will have to pull the shifter back apart and find the problem. I could get the selector to click for reverse with a pair of channel lock's. I might try and put the shifter in and see if that make a difference before I take it apart. Is the first shift link toward the front of the trans 4 and third and the second one second and first. Sorry guy's guess I am just getting to old for this Sh-----.

The shifter itself was apart? I believe there is a series of alignment holes that have to have a tool inserted to make everything align so the shifter works correctly. Out of alignment maybe?

Well it will go to revers some time's. But see the shim in the back look's different than what I see on the net. So ordered a new set of shim's and going to put them in and see if that is the problem. Called the Hurst line and gave them the number off the body and they could not find it. If I had to get a new one what would I ask for if any one know. Want the same pattern as this one. Thanks for any help.

You need to put all the linkage on, then adjust the rods using the hole in the shifter.

Ordered the new shim's and going to put them in and see how it work. Thanks for all the info.

Line up the shifter levers. Use a 1/4" drill bit and put it through the lever holes. The trans levers must be in neutral positions. Install each rod one-by-one. Adjust each rod so the knob-end inserts into the trans lever easily. Remove drill bit. Shift into gear & adjust the stop-bolts, both front & rear inside the shift mechanism. This is kinda simple, but I didn't have my second cup of coffee yet this morning.

Yes this comp shifter dose not have the aligner bolt's. So don't have to worry about those. Thanks for the info. Been a long time since had a four speed car that has the old Hurst shifter. Sure it will all work out in the end. Thanks.
