TRW 2295 still relevent for a build?

I have an opportunity to pick up a set of TRW 2295s on the cheap...
Are these still relevent in a modern std stroke 440 build?
 
Strong. Heavy. Better choices out there, but you know that.
Cheap? I'd run em. But maybe mill the dome off for a 75cc head, and consider tool steel pins to get rid of those monstrously heavy trw pins.
 
We run them yet...mainly because have them. We deck the block about .045-.050 to get them to zero deck. They are a odd height because they copied the ch of a 68-69 440hp piston and stuck a dome on it. After you machine the block to do 0 deck it limits future piston choices. I've seen 3 different 2295 piston styles. The early ones have stock style wrist pins and a narrow snap ring for free floating pins. Next they used a stronger pin that is tapered internally and changed the snap rings to a odd wide width. Both those piston are better off with a pressed in pin then free floating. The final rendition is under the Speed pro brand. They narrowed the wrist piston to lighten it about 30 grams and went to round c clip which is superior. Ours have had deeper valve reliefs cut for valve clearance. If you plan to to do old TRW 2295s and free floating rods you need to pass. At least they have the narrower 1/16 rings.

Intension with this is 80% street brawler 20% Firebird Raceway.
For heads I have a set of Eddy RPMs cut to about 73cc....and a set of 906s which will need attention (they're fresh but from a 2bbl 383 single spring). There is also a set of fresh DC Stage IVs with stainless valves for sale locally...but will probably need as much attention as my 906s.

This is all I have to go by till I get over to see/and pick them up.

We've run all of those heads your considering. The dome should work with any of them. Direct Connection stage iV heads have a lot of potential if you want to port them and install larger valves. They are pretty much 452s w really thick castings. Ours have 2.14s and 1.81s and have been ground in the push rod pinch area for stock rockers. Stock requres a offset rocker. Ours flow 330/240 cfm heavily ported. They are great head if you like to grind. :BangHead:
Edelbrocks obviously are better otb and the weight savings is nice. If they are e streets...headers may need some clearancing for the angled pugs. At 73.5 cc your looking at mid 11s to upper 13s depending on the blocks deck height. You could mill off the dome(they are solid) and machine the block for quench and with those close chamber heads it could be a nice pump gas build.
The open chamber heads are going to not really care where the piston is down the deck, But pump gas build can be difficult with a open chamber and a dome, much easier running good gas. Our st 4's are 84 cc after being cleaned up, 906s are a little lower compression yet. But similiar to a st 4.
Looks like the pistons have Ly rods hung on them, 2295s will be fairly close to stock bob weights for balancing. The pistons are lighter then stock, but the wrist pin is heavier. Ours had some more weight added when it was balanced. The stock eyebrows are good for about .580ish lift. We cut ours deeper for .650 lift. The Ly rods and heavy 2295s will work over the block over time. We had lots of chaffing from cap walk...but we did hundreds of passes running in the 10s shifting at 6500. Had it to 8300 and stayed together.Lol
We have one engine w 2295s and eagle rods w free floating pins. Crank had lots of holes drilled to balance, it was a pain finding wrist pin retainers for the old trw pistons though.
