Twin post mirror loose

The ball socket on my mirror is loose, and I was wondering what the recommended repair is? I see that the glass is installed with a spring behind it and a snap ring with no tabs, almost like a piston ring. How does one disassemble the mirror? I don't want to replace the mirror but it's unusable it's so loose.

I have used a 1/2 drive 5/8 socket on an extension and a hammer to bend the bracket that holds the ball in place. The bracket is spot welded to the mirror housing.
I wrap the mirror up in a soft cloth to prevent damage to the finish and place it on my vice.
A second person is best to hold the mirror for you.
This is my method, some one else may have a better way.

If I understand correctly it is just the swivel ball that is a little worn & will not let the mirror head stay upward in adjustment? If so just get Lock-Tite Gel super glue(blue bottle) at Lowes or Home depot (about $3.00) & put a little on the ball area that is exposed & work the head around while it is still wet. The glue will make the mirror head ball semi tight in the socket and it will stay in adjustment & you will not see the glue at all & it will move after the glue gets hard so you can adjust it in the furure. I have also used the Lock Tite solution. It's simple and it works.

Are these different then the 69 mirrors? Mine was glued in? I learned a trick from HT413 for removing them, using 2 sided 3M tape you just stick something for a handle to the glass with the tape and pull it out. Mine just had a tab with 2 bolts, 1 bolt was loose so I locktited them in tight... problem solved.

How do you take the glass out?

Push in on the glass gently and it should have about a 1/4 gap between the mirror and the spring clip. I use an o-ring pick to grab one end of the clip and pull it out,
The clip is like a spring. I also used a razor knife once at the swap meet to show a fellow mopar nut how to fix his mirror.

I'll try an oil pick first, may be I can get it apart. If notI, I do have blue thread lock

After removing the glass, you may find a thin spring steel strap that is attached by 2 screws that causes resistance against the ball that may need tightened.That is what I found in a 63 twin post mirror.

Every one I have pulled apart has had the steel strap spot welded.
Yours may have been repaired by some one else.
Sounds like it would work though.
