U.S. Navy's Largest Destroyer Ever Heads Out to Sea for First Time

Well it certainly is not much of a looker.. Maybe I am just an oldie, but give me the tall superstructure of a ship of the line any day.

Hi Mikey T

And that is exactly what the "New Design" direction is trying to avoid.
Being undetected from 60 miles away.

Also, the "STEALTH" capabilities from the engines etc.

So: I read where it has:
1. "Electric Rail Gun" weapons systems
2. Advanced electric propulsion systems designed to be undetectable from sonar and conventional ASW technologies.
3. All weapon systems are enclosed (Hidden)

Report from Global Securities:
-There are a few basic facts about China's claims in the South China Sea that are centrl to understanding the dispute. China has declared the South China Sea to be a "core interest" worth fighting for, along with Taiwan and Tibet, but it only discovered this fact in 2010. China claims the entire South China Sea, but only discovered this ownership in 1949. China's claim to the entire South China Sea is unique in maritime law, and contravenes the fundamental principle of the Law of the Sea that requires maritime claims to be based on land features, not arbitrary lines on the water on a map. There is no basis for a "split the difference" compromise. China is building new islands in the South China Sea by dredging up reef material. China appears to claim territorial waters for these artificial islands, violating a fundamental principle of maritime law that such artificial creations cannot acquire territorial waters.

The United States called in late 2015 for a halt to China's artificial island-building, and in recent weeks has tried to signal its determination to challenge Beijing over the disputed sea by sending military ships and planes near the islands.

Hi Bruzilla and "Gang".....

Well, this South China seas "news" is NOT GOING AWAY.........

Bruzilla's post: I'm not too worried about their little build-a-bases in the Pacific. I suspect they'll be history after the first typhoon goes by or earthquake hits. They're not the top of a mountain, they're just a pile of sand and coral. They are not of much real military value due to their tenuous design, but more of a political item by ostensibly allowing them to claim territory that isn't theirs.

I look at the fact that China becomes a Third World shithole the second the US decides to default on all our debt they hold, and I can't see China ever doing anything more serious than saber rattling. That's why they've never dared move on Taiwan.

LOL

China has made the determination that they cannot compete in the global economy on merit and creativity alone; they have acknowledged that their best bet is to simply steal the work of others. The fact that they are staking the future of their economy on counterfeits; it stands to reason that they would use a similar technique to expand their borders.

Remember when they got away with faking an X5?

Next thing you know, they`ll be cloning those destroyers!

Oh, of that I have no doubt! Hell, they cloned several of our steam engines to the point that some lucky historical steam lines in the US began buying parts from the Chinese.

It looks to me that its all about stealth. I could see that as soon as I looked at that Destroyer. Funny how in WWII Destroyers were light in firepower behind battleships and cruisers with just 5" guns but they had torpedo's and depth charges and could hunt subs. I bet this ship has as much firepower as any ship out there. Ron

Hey Ski, looks like China is getting jumpy....HMMMM.....

China to US: 'Be careful' in South China Sea
AFP

via Yahoo! News - Mar 31, 2016

Beijing (AFP) - Beijing's defence ministry on Thursday warned the US navy to "be careful" in the South China Sea and slammed a newly signed agreement between Washington and the Philippines.

Earlier this month, Manila agreed to give US forces access to five military bases, including some close to the disputed South China Sea, where tensions have risen over Beijing's assertion of its territorial claims.

China claims virtually all the South China Sea despite conflicting claims by Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines, and has built up artificial islands in the area in recent months, including some with airstrips.

Washington has since October carried out two high-profile "freedom of navigation" operations in which it sailed warships within 12 nautical miles of islets claimed by China.

Asked about a recent report on US patrols in the sea, defence ministry spokesman Yang Yujun told a briefing on Thursday: "As for the US ships which came, I can only suggest they be careful".

The agreement between Washington and Manila applies to the Antonio Bautista Air Base on the western island of Palawan, directly on the South China Sea.

Asked about the deal, Yang said:

Kind of SCARY!
Yeah MarPar, Im seeing this now!

They (China) have claimed the So China Sea as their sovereign entity.

It is heating up.
Too bad Bruzilla wont read this anymore...

On those Islands I reported to Bru...the ones he said were nothing more than coral and sand,?
well. air fields and war planes are arriving
Also a few BIG military class vessels

Allegedly, surface to Air defense is being set up there too.

IMHO, to dismiss those islands as lumps of coral and sand with 'no foundation' is, with all due respect, just uninformed. No island can withstand a massive tsunami, and regardless of volcanic origin or not. If an island (or even a submerged island) exists at all, it's a safe bet that the continental plate is not too far beneath. Civil engineers an heavy contractors are capable of nearly unimaginable feats, the lead to which would be to tie a stucture down securely to a solid base.

As the DUDE (HT413) states:
"Uninformed" or refusal to accept. Is that why Bru and some pundits refuse to see the alarming effects if China shuts down the South China Seas?
Denial?

Bruzilla IS a smart guy, he is also Pro-NAVY and conservative with the U.S./Gvt spending...
But we need new weapons platforms...period!

Ash Carter's latest move in the South China Sea is really going to make China angry
Business Insider 14 hours ago

MANILA (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said he will visit a U.S. aircraft carrier transiting the disputed South China Sea on Friday, a move bound to anger China, which has been increasingly asserting its territorial claims. China claims almost the entire South China Sea, believed to have huge deposits of oil and gas. Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have claims to parts of the waters, through which about $5 trillion in trade is shipped every year. Carter, speaking at the close of joint U.S.-Philippines "Balikatan" military exercises in Manila, said he would visit the USS John C. Stennis, after visiting another carrier in the region in November.

Yup,
SAS Air Defense systems are being installed and set-up.
China is claiming this area as sovereign.
Therefore, China can claim Air space violations, controlling the shipping lanes.

14 July 2016
Well,
The latest on this South China sea:
1. China IS digging their heels in
2. The Spratley Islands (not just reefs as Bruzilla suggested) are now supporting a full air combat aircraft support facility
3. The Islands can now support full Chineese Naval warships (2 are currently in dock)
4. China is now declaring the Air Space above the Islands.
5. China is prepping to install an Air Defense system on these Islands
So, yes it is "heating up"

so they sell to EVERYONE ,its what their whole economy is based on now . what if we just stopped buying their **** until they go home :icon_fU:
