I have a 1965 Plymouth Satellite with a 318 poly engine. Engine and most every other part has been restored or rebuilt. I have developed a problem in the last few months that has me stumped. I start out from a stop and turn left to move into traffic and it cuts off. Not every time but randomly. Dead in the water! Nothing to work up to the cut off, just from running to stopped. And, it is always from a dead stop and ALWAYS in a left turn. Never any other time. Engine runs like a sewing machine and purrs, until that random time when accelerating and turning left it cuts off. No one that I have asked about it has any idea what is happening. So, I thought I would turn to the folks who have experienced a little bit of everything. You guys!! When I put it in neutral after the cut off and rolling along, I crank it back up; it cranks and runs like nothing has happened. Any help would be appreciated. I'm just short of cracking my head on an oak tree.....I'm afraid that it will leave me stranded in on coming traffic in a dangerous situation, which might cause bodily harm and instant destruction in my pride and joy. Please give it some thought and give me some suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!!

Let's narrow it down. Electrical or fuel.

Does it act like you turned off the ignition?

Does it act like it was running out of gas?

Do your idiot lights come on, oil pressure, ect. then you restart the car?

A low float level can make it stall on a turn.

A loose connection can kill the electric to the coil or distributor.

Your car have a bukhead connector? Start there. Carefully remove fittings, spray wih electrical cleaner and reinstall.

Sounds like my car. One of the reasons its going to get rewired.

Do you have a good ground strap between the engine block & body/chassis? If not it may be grounding through the engine mount brackets & when the engine shifts to the right slightly on a left hand turn it may be loosing that ground. Just a thought. Slade

Ground straps yes. I've been dealing with this for awhile. The car finally did it in the garage for the last time so thats one of the things on the to do list when I do the engine swap. Ron Francis is going to love me. I don't want any electrical issues with the new bullet since its EFI.

Thanks guys! I am planning to address all your ideas this week end. I was also, told to check the ign. sw. going through dash for proper ground. I know I had a w/wiper sw. not grounded and it knocked the crap out of me one day when I tried to turn it on, so I took it off and cleaned the dash of paint and it has never done that again. So, maybe that is a problem to look into, also. If I find what is doing this, I will post so others will know the possibility of this problem and what to do to fix it. Thanks again!

Old car electrical problems are quite fun, aren't they?
