I've a question regarding the support sleeve on the UCA bushings. According to my book only cars with 10 inch front brakes, or Satellite police or taxi vehicles, were fitted with a support sleeve over the rear bushing. My car has front disc brakes so I don't think it should have the sleeve at all. When I pulled it apart, I was surprised to see that one side had the sleeve and the other side didn't. Any one know if I should fit the sleeves or not, and what is the purpose of the sleeve? :confused2:

I just did My 68 Charger upper bushings on Monday. It does have 10 inch drums and has the sleeves on both sides. IMO put them on it wont hurt anything. They are no more work to press the bushing in with or without the sleeves.

I don’t know if they were intended to be used with disc brakes or not, but I question how important they really are. I don’t see that the outer shell of the bushing needs any strengthening so I guess it’s there to keep the bushing from pushing out of the arm since it’s only used on the rear bushing. I’ve never heard of a bushing moving relative to the control arm on any vehicle with any type brakes so I have to wonder if it was a belt and suspenders thing so the police/taxi version could be called heavy duty.

I remember reading in some magazine doing a tech article on front suspension rebuild. Can find it but i want to say the sleeve was used in the manufacturing process. To press the bushing in. Dont hold me to that, but i do know it said they were not necessary to reinstall. If they were, they would be more readily available new or even come with the bushings.

Are you going back with Poly or Rubber? I thought they where supposed to have the outter sleeve.

Thanks for the input fellas. I've gone with the rubber Jim Bob, not sure why, I just prefer the old style.
I think I'll do away with the sleeve as I only have one anyway. 1more and Hemi Rebel brought up some good points which make sense.
Thanks again for the input, much appreciated. :VB toast:

I went with the rubber too. I put rubber in the Charger and the Duster worked great.
I put Poly in my Dads 65 Satellite nothing but squeeking.

Thanks Mike. Makes me feel a bit more comfortable with my decision.
