There seems to be so many of these facilities opening were i live. I had my doubts about them as i always valued the relationship you have with your doctor. This week however i had another experience. I developed a nice sized infected boil. I went to a urged care as my RN wife thought it should be seen. The doctor a nice young woman seemed very competent and wanted me back in two days and prescribed a antibiotic. When i went back she had to lance it and it was nearly painless procedure. Another few days and i went back again saw another doctor and he removed the packing. Now as it happens i also had my bi yearly appointment with my cardiologist and we discussed this whole thing. He told me had i gone to my regular GP,she would not been able to lance it as the insurance companies now won't allow it,but urged care does do it. I guess this is were the new medicine is now heading. Any thoughts?

Sad all some people can talk about is poor health issues,
it's really showing the age of some of the members here...LOL

you can thank un-Affordable Care Act {aka Obamacare} for many
of the problems & costs associated with healthcare today too...

Agree-- this is a good example of the mess that the "Obamacare"has created.

My long time regular doctor gave up his private practice about ten years ago and joined a group of doctors that shared an administrative office that took care of the huge amount of paper work needed.
It was a win situation for all the doctors involved.
Shortly after the "obamacare" stuff came in to "help us all" My doctor retired several years sooner then his plan.
He told me that the passion for his life as a doctor were dashed and it was time to get out of the mess that used to be his life.

----------My health is fine. The health issue's about people over 50 especially men being posted are in no way "sad". The facts are that many have posted about unfortunate illness's,some about medical procedures and the like. Be thankful your in a position of not having any health issues to talk about

Exactly what my doctor said to me today.

If you and I have the same story that is a clue that the odds are it is very common.

We not only have to fight our battles with our health but we now have to battle with the system to get the help we need. And (btw) for the most part we have worked years expecting something very different from what is now on the plate).

A mantra I recall was--(If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor).
If your doctor quits their life's work because of the change in the system it speaks about the change in a real and rather lasting way.

I used one of these places when I was ill out of town, they seemed competent and I was seen quickly .. have to many good hospitals here to bother with them when I'm home

Turner healthcare is popping these ER's up on every corner in the state of Texas. There are loopholes in the new healthcare law that are allowing these centers to be cash cows. For the time being.....

All they have to see is ONE, yes one patient per day to break even. Sounds crazy but was confirmed.

I have seen about 10 locations built here in the past 6 months.

This is interesting. I was led to one of those for a job required drug test.
The office was empty but I was held the normal long period of time.
It did occur to me that they had a big staff but not much going on.
So where does the money come from to stay open?
Is it sorta like mac donalds? Some locations do better than others?
Or is it otherwise. They stay open because the money flows freely from my pocket to the IRS to the "highly" motivated doctors and office staff.
