I picked up a used set of mid '70's disc brake spindles to swap onto my '66 Belvedere-II. After cleaning off all the grime, I notice this weird pattern in the forging, which I assume is corrosion related, perhaps coupled with the flow structure/grain structure of the forging. Something to be concerned with? Should I carefully blend these away? Run as is? Replace with new?

Run them that’s not corrosion that’s the surface of the casting.

Run them.

Millions of these cars are on the road with no troubles related to the steering knuckles.

I appreciate the feedback everyone. It eases my concerns. I'll install them as is.

It won't hurt a bit to smooth them out
if the appearance bothers you. Rough
castings can hide stress cracks that
you may not normally notice. Just
don't be too hog wild with removing
material, and stay away from any
machined surfaces.
Hot rudders have done this
for years to improve the looks of
castings on their open wheeled cars.
I did it on mine.
