Hey everyone, I have a 69 727 that is original to my coronet, last summer I had the trans serviced as it didn’t seem to be shifting and the kick down wasn’t engaging. I brought it to my transmission guy who is a very reputable mechanic specializing in transmissions. He cleaned it up and replaced a spring or two (I’m not too knowledgeable about transmissions) but he basically told me the valve body is tired and I got the impression it should be replaced as he said he has one around the shop somewhere and if he finds it he will let me know. My question is, is there a valve body that I can buy to upgrade from the original stock one? also if so will this improve the physical shifting of the transmission or would I need a shift kit? I’m not looking to do anything crazy with the car performance wise possibly some mild upgrades. I just don’t like how easily it goes in and outta gear. Sorry if I sound ignorant thanks in advance!

The 71 up 727s have a part throttle kick down feature. U can add it to the older ones. U can get a forward auto shift or manual shift valve body or a reverse manual valve body. There is lots of shift improver kits and shift kits. Ur tranny man should be able to handle any of these jobs. Did he say the tranny was tired? Kim

no he said the tranny was fine, but the valve body should be replaced. To clarify my OP he cleaned up the valve body currently in it and replaced one of the springs. It drives and shifts like it should now and made a huge improvement. It finally feels like a 383 is supposed to feel when you hammer the throttle, I’m just trying to figure out what to do with this stimulus check jk, sorta

Trans-go TF-1 or TF-2 kits are a good vb upgrade and instructions are clear enough for most diy-ers.

should I replace the whole valve body or will those kits make it like new?
They are kits that modify your original vb. While it's out do a total disassemble and thorough cleaning before starting the mods. It will also need a re-cleaning before reassembly.

V.bodies and associated parts hardly ever wear out. Put a kit in yours.
