Just got done watching it again, the original version. Strange flick. You can see the R/T badges, but can't read the hood tags. Anybody know for sure what was under the hood ?

even back in the day they used multiple cars for the same one in the movie.one seen could have a big block and the next a small block.

I'll say 440's mostly from memory. Let's see if I get the prize.

remade version was a hemi, probably not what was actually in the car

Since I now live in Colorado I've talked to a lot of people who saw the movie being made and the trailer hauling several cars for different shots. Same thing they do today. I saw the movie when I was 15 years old at the Sunset Drive In in SE Kansas. I vowed I would have a Challenger someday. I've got one in sublime, white was tempting. The B body is my second Mopar project. You should watch the Grindhouse Feature Death Proof now!. You will understand it better.

The one 1:8th scale car I wish I had bought when it was cheap at TOYSRUS. The dirty version of the Kowalski car.

From an interview with Barry Newman (Kawolski) they were given four Challengers to use for the movie from Chrysler. Three were 440 four speed cars, one was a 383 automatic. All four were still drivable when returned after shooting was over.

The automatic car was used as a tow vehicle to pull the Camaro stunt double into the bulldozer at the end of the movie... :)

the AudioSlave video still gives chills. That base guitar with a 440 Challenger!!!!!!!

This radio station was named Kowalski, in honor of the last American hero to whom speed means freedom of the soul. The question is not when's he gonna stop, but who is gonna stop him.

Steve ss where did you grow up? I lived in parsons went to lchs

and...............just what is the cop gonna shoot running toward the burning inferno...

You were just a little older than me. I had a 71 duster b5 blue my buddy down the road was about your age had a 69 dart gts green

In the scene with the hippie dude on the chopper & mini-bike, he went to town to get ha Hemi Oil Pan,
IIRC it was a 426 hemi Alpine White R/T Challenger, in the beginning of the movie they say he's delivering a modified or tuned ? 70 426 hemi Challenger RT from Denver to SF has 15hrs to make it...

but the hood emblem looks like a 340 or even a 440-MAGNUM emblem & R/T hood,
in allot of the scenes, allegedly they used/destroyed 7 different cars, quick shots/looks....

I'm sure there's a better photo of the star car somewhere

I looked up a couple of old articles, found out I was mistaken; five Challengers were used, not four. Here's a hard to read but interesting interview with both Barry Newman (the driver) and Carry Loften who was the stunt coordinator for the movie.

Also, I hadn't realized that Dodge released a Vanishing Point model during 2011.

I was down in Tennessee on vacation with the Mrs. and while she went shopping I stopped in here for a bit. There was a nice display with movie and car info on a couple of the cars, one from the original and the second movie. I'll dig up some pics and post a few. Anyone heading to the Gatlinburg area should drop in. A very nice collection of classic cars including some quality mopars.

Best car chase movie ever. In the movie the cops keep saying it might be supercharged but I never heard a whining noise like sc makes coming from it
