I visited my friend and engine builder today. His birthday will be friday and he'll be 81 yrs young!
While there, I'm the one who got a gift!
Got a big block 727 from a mororhome and a tailshaft kit to convert!
Almost 120 miles round trip and got 23 MPG with my 3500 Ram Cummins.
Pretty happy with that also.
The trip meter said 23 mpg before I started the truck again and it went to 22.9 instantly.

Yes, good friend indeed!
He's been slowly dispersing long time collected parts.
He has an extensive collection of thermoquads and AFB carbs with a list of #'s
I told him guys are looking for those from time to time.

That’s pretty good, except that at about six bucks a gallon, diesel fuel is about a buck more than regular unleaded.

Cool deal, free from a buddy

Those Motor home transmissions are great foundations for a high horsepower build. They have a special hardened input shaft (identified by yellow paint and a narrow groove cut around the spline) , 4 clutch high drum, 4 pinion front and rear planetary sets and HP second gear servo with high ratio band lever. Most have relatively low miles so they are generally in very good shape. Nice score, especially with the added parts to convert it to a passenger car trans.

Thanks

Yes, agreed. That's why my friend gifted that very unit to me!
You are one the few to realize that without being said!
When I visited him last fall he had six or so transmissions he was selling and I asked if I could buy one.
He told me they were spoken for but had another for me.
Him knowing I have a race car was the deciding factor.
RUFFCUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
